WarGames event will return as the Final NXT TakeOver PPV for the year 2020 on 6 December 2020. This will be the 4th NXT TakeOver WarGames event which features 1 or 2 WarGames matches. The event has generally been taking place the night before Survivor Series as part of the big 4 PPV weekend. But the event is shifted to December in 2020 and will be a standalone event.
The event has been affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will likely take place with limited fans inside the WWE’s Capitol Wrestling Center. Few fans will also join via WWE Thunderdome presentation.
WarGames Explained
WarGames is a special kind of tornado tag team match taking place inside a big steel cage with two rings inside it. Typically, 4 or 5 members are in each team. One member of each team starts the match. Every 2 minutes one member enter the match turn by turn from each team. This would mean that one team will be at a disadvantage until its member enters the match upon completion. The finish comes after the first pinfall or submission.

Men’s WarGames Match – Undisputed Era vs Pat MacAfee, Pete Dunne, Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan
The storyline between the two teams started with a confrontation between Adam Cole and Pat MacAfee. Cole defeated McAfee at NXT TakeOver: 30.
It was later revealed that McAfee was paying Dexter Lumis to attack Undisputed ERA members. The storyline then moved towards McAfee siding with Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan to feud with Undisputed ERA. Pete Dunne made his return and joined the gang to assault Undisputed ERA. The gang started calling themselves the Kings of NXT.
The stable confronted NXT Champion Finn Balor upon his return to NXT. But Undisputed ERA came to Balor’s aide. The WarGames match was announced between the two teams.
Women’s WarGames Match – Team Shotzi (Shotzi Blackheart, Ember Moon, Rhea Ripley, IO Shirai) vs Team Candice (Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai, Toni Strom, Raquel Gonzalez)
Shotzi Blackheart and Candice LeRae had been feuding with each other for some time. Blackheart called out LeRae and asked her to be ready for the War, referring to a WarGames match between their teams.
Leon Ruff(c) vs Damian Preist vs Johnny Gargano – NXT North American Championship Match
Johnny Gargano defeated Damian Preist at NXT Halloween Havoc to win the NXT North American Championship. Next week, Gargano choose Leon Ruff as his opponent via a wheel of contenders. Priest distracted Gargano during the match, leading to Ruff winning the match and the title.
The following week, Gargano attacked Priest before his match. Ruff also came out to help out Priest but ended up kicking Priest. Ruff later told NXT General Manager that he is ready to defend his title against both of them in triple threat match.
