Hiromu Takahashi NJPW Best of Super Jr 28

Hiromu Takahashi has won the NJPW Best of Super Junior 28(2021) tournament by defeating YOH in the final match.

Takahashi topped the league phase of Best of Super Junior 28 with 15 points(7 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw). YOH came in second with 14 points(7 wins, 4 losses) to set up the final of the 28th edition on December 15, 2021.

In a match that lasted 38 minutes, both competitors went to war and produced many false finishes. SOH, who has been feuding with YOH since their tag team split, tried to interfere but could not impact the result. Takahashi finally hit the Time bomb to get the pin and the win.

This is the third time that Takahashi has won the Best of Super Jr tournament. He is now tied with Jushin Thunder Liger and Koji Kanemoto for most BOSJ wins. His previous wins came in the 2018 and 2020 versions of the tournament. He will not go and face IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion El Desperado at Wrestle Kingdom 16. However, it is currently not announced on which night this title match will take place.

After his win, Shingo Takagi and Tetsuya Naito(from his stable Los Ingobernables de Japón) came to the ring to celebrate with Takahashi and gave him the winner’s trophy. Some tension was also shown between the three of them.

After his win at 2020 edition, Takahashi went on to defeat Taiji Ishimori for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 15 Night 2. He later had to relinquish as he suffered a torn left pectoral injury and went out of action for six months. He will now battle to get the same title back at Wrestle Kingdom 16.

Keep tuned in for more news and updates from NJPW.
