Dolph Ziggler Becomes #1 Contender for NXT Championship
Dolph Ziggler has become the new #1 contender for NXT Championship to get a future title shot against Bron Breakker.
Dolph Ziggler started a rivalry with the NXT Champion over Twitter last month. Ziggler then appeared to confront Breakker during the Championship Summit segment two weeks back on NXT. Last week, Ziggler hit Breakker with a superkick during the title match against Santos Escobar. Breakker still managed to retain the title after Tomasso Ciampa took Ziggler away with a brawl.
This week, Tomasso Ciampa appeared on WWE RAW to team up with Finn Balor for a tag team match against the Dirty Dawgs. WWE then announced that Ciampa vs Ziggler match this week on NXT will be the #1 contender match, with the winner facing Breakker.
Ciampa and Ziggler clashed in the main event of the show. But, the results came down to an interruption from a cameraman who attacked Ciampa’s knee while he was getting back to the ring. Ziggler then hit a superkick on Ciampa to get the win. Later, the cameraman turned out to be Ziggler’s teammate Robert Roode.
As the Dirty Dawgs continued to beat up Ciampa, Bron Breakker came out to make the save and laid down a challenge for a tag team match next week. The show ended with a brawl between the two teams.
Breakker won the title at NXT New Year’s Evil event earlier this year. He has since defended the title against Santos Escobar at NXT Vengeance Day last week where Ziggler interrupted.
