Rafael Dos Anjos has a new opponent for UFC 272 in Renato Moicano(15-4-1).
Former UFC Lightweight Champion Dos Anjos was scheduled to face Rafael Fiziev on March 5. The fight was earlier scheduled for February 19 Fight Night event, but was moved to UFC 272 co-main event due to Fiziev’s visa issues.
Just days before the rescheduled fight, Fiziev tested positive for COVID-19 and had to pull out of the bout. UFC started searching for a short-notice replacement and that search ended with Renato Moicano.
Several reports have confirmed that Moicano has agreed to replace Fiziev on 6 days notice. However, the fight will now be moved from 155 lbs to 160 lbs catchweight. Moicano is expected to reach Las Vegas on Tuesday, March 1.
Moicano is currently on a two-fight winning streak after beating Alexander Hernandez at UFC 271 via second-round submission. Before that, he defeated Jai Herbert at Fight Night in June last year. He earlier lost to Fiziev itself in December 2020.
RDA moved back to lightweight in his last fight after a failed stint in the welterweight division. He defeated Paul Felder via split decision. Since then, two of his bouts have fizzled out. RDA was supposed to face Islam Makhachev at UFC 267, but had to pull out due to an injury. And now, Fiziev has to pull out due to coronavirus.
