The date for the Welterweight title unification bout between Errol Spence Jr.(27-0) and Yordenis Ugas(27-4) is now set.

PBC announced that the fight will take place on April 16, 2022, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington near Dallas, Texas. Also, Showtime has secured the rights for marketing and distribution of the PPV event.

The deal between WBC & IBF Champion Spence and WBA(Super) Champion Ugas was finalized back in December for this title unification bout. However, it took PBC almost two months to lock in a date and venue for the bout. The bout will be the second big sporting event at the stadium within two weeks. WWE’s WrestleMania 38 will take place at the same venue on April 2 and 3.

This will be Spence’s bout at the venue which is near to his hometown of DeSoto. He has previously handed Mikey Garcia his first loss at the same venue on March 16, 2019, to retain the IBF Welterweight title. He later defeated Danny Garcia here on December 5, 2020, to retain IBF and WBC Welterweight titles. This was the last time Spence took to the boxing ring.

Spence was supposed to defend both of his titles against Manny Pacquiao on August 21 last year. However, he had to undergo eye surgery after suffering a retinal tear. He was replaced by Ugas who successfully defended his WBA Super title against the boxing legend. This was Ugas’s fourth win in a row after losing to Shawn Porter back in March 2019.

Spence will headline a Showtime PPV for the first time. His last three bouts have headlined FOX PPVs. Before that, Spence headlined three Showtime events.

The winner between Spence and Ugas might go on to face WBO Welterweight Champion Terence Crawford, barring a roadblock. Eimantas Stanionis is WBA’s mandatory challenger and agreed to step aside to let Spence-Ugas go forward. Stanionis might be up to face the winner of this fight.
