Claressa Shields vs Savannah Marshall: Undercard, Start Time
Claressa Sheilds and Savannah Marshall will not only clash in an undisputed middleweight title fight on October 15, 2022, but they will also headline an all-female fight card.
Both 12-0 undefeated boxers, Sheilds and Marshall will clash in their first professional boxing showdown. However, they have previously faced off in an amateur bout in 2012, where Marshall came on top and gave Sheilds her only loss in her amateur career.
Since turning pro in 2016, Sheilds has won titles in Super Middleweight, Middleweight, and Super Welterweight divisions. She is the current undisputed champion in the Super Welterweight division currently and previously held undisputed status in the Middleweight division in 2019-2020. Shields last defeated Ema Kozin in February 2022 to retain IBF, WBC, and WBA middleweight titles.
Marshall won the WBO Middleweight title in 2020 after Shields vacated it. She defeated Hannah Rankin* via knockout in the third round to win her first World title. Marshall has defended that title three times since. Her latest win came via another knockout earlier this year in April. With this fight, Sheilds could become a two-time undisputed champion in the Middleweight division.
But, will Marshall be able to overcome only rival to defeat her in the boxing ring this time? Or will Shields become the first boxer to get the undisputed status twice in the same weight class.
In the co-main event, we have another title unification bout as WBO, IBF & The Ring Super Featherweight Champion Mikaela Mayer faces WBC & IBO champion Alycia Baumgardner. Mayer defeated Jennifer Han this year in April to retain her titles. A week later, Baumgardner defeated Edith Soledad Matthysse in her first bout this year.
