NXT New Year’s Evil 2022 Live Results- Ciampa vs Breakker II
Welcome to the live results blog for WWE NXT New Year’s Evil 2022 weekly special event on January 4, 2022 featuring Tomasso Ciampa vs Bron Breakker NXT Championship match.
A title unification fight is also on the card as North American Champion Carmelo Hayes takes on Cruiserweight titleholder Roderick Strong. Walter will return to NXT to team up with his NXT Tag Team champions Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner. They will take on MSK’s Nash Carter & Wes Lee and Riddle. To top it off, Women’s Champion Mandy Rose will defend the title against Raquel Gonzalez and Cora Jade.

Results
- Carmelo Hayes defeated Roderick Strong via pinfall to become new unified NXT North American Champion.
- Riddle, Nash Carter & Wes Lee defeated Imperium(Walter, Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner) in a tag team match via pinfall.
- Mandy Rose(c) defeated Raquel Gonzalez & Cora Jade via pinfall to retain NXT Women’s Championship.
- Bron Breakker defeated Tomasso Ciampa(c) via pinfall to wi the NXT Championship.
Live Updates
Carmelo Hayes vs Roderick Strong – NXT North American Cruiserweight Championship Match
They lock up to start the match and quickly come to a stalemate after getting to the ropes. Hayes wrenches Strong’s arm. Strong turns it around. Hayes hits an armdrag and a dropkick in a quick successsion. Strong with side headlock takedown before another armdrag from Hayes. He hits an overhead kick on Strong. He puts on a headlock.
Strong cuts off a charge with a tackle and then hits big chops to the chest. Hayes comes back with a roundhouse kick and a springboard leg drop while Strong was stuck on the middle rope. They both counter hip toss attempts and reach the apron. Hayes hits a DDT on the apron. Strong hits a running boot to turn Hayes inside out. Strong gets a close two-count as we cut to a break.
Strong comes out of a headlock and hits a kick. He hits multiple backbreakers one after the other. He goes for the Olymic slam but Hayes counters with a bulldog. Hayes puts on crossface submission. Strong tries to counter with strong hold but Hayes out him in Boston Crab. Strong turns over and then puts on the strong hold. Hayes kicks a his face before Strong hits another backbreaker for a near fall.
Strong nails him with elbows and then some running elbows for another two-count. Hayes comes back with a cutter for a two-count of his own. Strong hits a forearm and Hayes fires back with a low dropkick. Hayes goes to the top. Strong follows him and hits avalanche x-plex for another near fall. Hayes hits a leg drop from the top on the back of Strong’s neck to get the pin.
Winner – Carmelo Hayes(new unified champion)
AJ Styles Confronts Waller
AJ Styles is out in the ring and talks about never being in NXT when he came to WWE, but having a lot of respect for the business. Grayson Waller comes out soon to cut him off. says AJ has got people emotional, but it does not change the fact that he lost to Omos next. Waller says he is here to stay despite whatever AJ or others think. Waller says he is living in his head rent free.
AJ says he is not at 100% and asks why not Waller takes advantage of this and accept his challenge for a singles match. Waller hesitates initially but then removes his shirt to get into the ring. Waller then says they could do this for next week in the main event, and it will be the biggest victory of his career. AJ says it will be the biggest embarrassment of his career.
AJ ducks as Waller charges as him. Waller drops him with a tackle and stomps on him. AJ comes back with a Pele kick but Waller runs away before AJ could him with the phenomenal forearm.
Backstage, Women’s tag team champions are with Amari Miller. Persia Pirrotta and Indi Hartwell challenge them for a match next week which is accepted.
Imperium(Walter, Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner) vs Riddle, Nash Carter & Wes Lee
Carter and Barthel start the match. Barthel grounds Carter before they go back and forth. Carter hits back to back dropkicks. Aichner takes a blind tag and drops Carter with shoulder block. Carter hits him with headscissors. Lee comes in and hits a dropkick. Aichner turns him inside out with a clothesline. Lee tags in Riddle while Walter comes in from the other side. Riddle unloads with forearms and sidekicks. Walter catches his leg and chops him to a mat.
Aichner comes in and hits a body slam on Riddle. Riddle counters to tag in Lee. Carter also tags in for double team. Barthel tries to help his partner but is sent to the floor. Walter comes in and drops Carter with a shoulder. He drops Riddle from the apron. Walter puts Lee on the ropes for Barthel and Aichner to hit double dropkicks. Imperium poses in the middle of the ring as we cut to a break.
Carter hits dropkicks on Aichner and Barthel as we return. Walter tags in and cuts him off. Walter with kicks to the face. Carter ducks a clothesline and goes to tag out but Imperium sweeps Riddle and Lee off the apron. Walter nails Carter with a big boot. Carter fights back and tags in Riddle. Riddle unloads with forearm and sidekicks on Walter. Riddle hits a running forearm and running boot in the corner. He hits a suplex on Walter.
Riddle and MSK hits suicide dives on all three opponents on the floor. Riddle bridges after a German suplex on Walter for a two-count. Riddle gets ready for the RKO but gets distracted when Barthel and Aichner send MSK into the barricade. Walter hits a big lariat for a near fall. Barthel and Aichner hit Riddle with a suplex but MSK breaks the pin. Riddle fights back and drops Walter with a German suplex. MSK hit double team finisher on Aichner and Riddle hits RKO on Barthel to get the pin.
Winners – Riddle, Nash Carter & Wes Lee
Joe Gacy and Harland are backstage for an interview. Harland is working through issues from the past and how he is disappointed how people have treated him in NXT. Gacy then says he would like to enter the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classics tournament. Since they are not an official tag team and they do not want handouts, they will face a team next week to justify their inclusion in the tournament.
Mandy Rose(c) vs Raquel Gonzalez vs Cora Jade – NXT Women’s Championship Match
Raquel starts with a big boot on Jade and unloads with punches on Mandy. She whips Mandy to the corner. Jade attacks Raquel but she swats her away. Mandy kicks Raquel out of the ring. Jade sends Mandy to the floor and Raquel comes back for some back and forth with Jade. Jade sends her to the floor with a low bridge.
Rose trips Jade and brings her to the floor. Raquel tackles Mandy but Jade drops Raquel. Mandy covers Jade in the ring. Raquel pulls Jade out. Mandy sends her into the steel steps. Raquel breaks a pin attempt from Jade in the ring. Raquel takes both opponents on her shoulder to hit double Samoan drop as we cut to the break.
Jade with a sunset flip on Mandy for a two-count. Mandy hits her with a clothesline for a two-count. Jade hits headscissors on Mandy to send her to the floor. Jade hits a running knee on Raquel. Raquel fires back and then slams Jade to the floor. She asks Mandy to come back but Mandy starts to run to the back. Raquel brings her back to the ring and drops her a few times. Raquel with a big shot to the chest. Mandy rolls to the floor but Raquel brings her back.
Mandy hits her with Meteora on her way back. Raquel sends her to the ropes and hits her with the one handed powerbomb. Raquel covers Mandy for the pin but Jade breaks it with a senton from the top. Jade pushes Raquel from the top turnbuckle when she tries to hit a superplex. Mandy rolls over Jade and gets the pin with double rana.

Tomasso Ciampa(c) vs Bron Breakker – NXT Championship Match
Bron pushes Ciampa to the ropes after locking up. Ciampa hits back with a chop but Bron does not show any effect. Ciampa hits a clothesline and then a clothesline in the corner. Bron hits him with a delayed vertical suplex. He kips up to his feet as Ciampa goes to the floor. Ciampa tries to sweep his leg but Bron brings him in and hits another suplex. Bron nails big blows to the back.
Ciampa fires back with chops. He rakes Bron’s face against the ropes before unloading with punches on the corner. Bron hits an inverted atomic drop and a clothesline. Ciampa catches him with a dropkick. Ciampa hits punches and chops. Bron misses a flying tackle. Ciampa kicks him to the floor and then hits a suicide dive.
Back to the ring, Ciampa hits him with knees to the face. Ciampa puts on a sleeper. Bron drops on his back to break it. They trade strikes in the middle. Bron runs over Ciampa with a clothesline and a splash in the corner before countering a dropkick with a powerbomb. Ciampa slips out of the top and puts Bron in the tree of woe to hit a low dropkick to his face. Bron hits a spinebuster and a standing moonsault for a two-count.
Breakker goes to the second rope and hesitates to not repeat the mistake from the first match. Ciampa pushes him to the floor. He brings Bron back and hits a running knee. Bron hits back with a spear. They trade strikes again. Ciampa comes out with jabs and combination punches. Breakker hits a hurrincanrana for a two-count. Ciampa counters a powerslam into willow’s bell. Ciampa puts on a single leg Boston Crab. Breakker reaches the ropes.
Ciampa removes the padding on the floor. He hits a kick ot the head and goes for willow’s bell. Bron counters and slams Ciampa through the announce table. Back to the ring, Breakker hits the powerslam but Ciampa grabs the ropes to break the pin.
Ciampa is holding on to the ropes as Bron goes to pick him up. Ciampa uses the ropes for a low blow and follows with a knee to the jaw. He follows with more running knee strikes. He hits the fairytale ending but Bron kicks out of the pin. Ciampa takes him to the top turnbuckle. Breakker fights back and hits a bulldog from the second rope. Breakker puts on the camel clutch and gets the submission from Ciampa to win the title.
Winner – Bron Breakker(new NXT Champion)
