NJPW Dominion: Shingo Takagi Becomes IWGP World Title, Calls Out Ibushi

Shingo Takagi IWGP World Heavyweight Championship NJPW Dominion

Shingo Takagi has won the vacant IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at NJPW Dominion 6.6 by defeating Kazuchika Okada in the main event match.

Will Ospreay vacated the IWGP World Heavyweight title last month as he suffered a neck injury. NJPW then announced that the new champion will be crowned at NJPW Dominion. NJPW chose Kazuchika Okada(who Ospreay was supposed to defend title at Wrestle Grand Slam) and Shingo Takagi(Ospreay’s last opponent) for the title match.

What made this match more interesting was that Okada and Shingo were 1-1 in the singles matches till now. Okada won their match in last year’s G1 Climax match while Shingo won their encounter in the New Japan Cup earlier this year.

The match went down for around 30 minutes and tried to get the same finishes that got them the wins previously over their opponent. Okada had hit a piledriver and put on the mind clip submission move but Shingo somehow reached the ropes to break it.

Shingo countered with Made in Japan on the floor and Okada barely beat the 20-count. The back and forth action continued and Shingo finally hit his finisher to get the win.

After the match, Shingo cut a promo for the fans and went on to call out Kota Ibushi. Ibushi had defeated Jeff Cobb in a singles match earlier in the night. Ibushi answered the call and came into the ring to accept the challenge. It is not known right now when Shingo vs Ibushi match will go down.
