Finn Balor has made his return to WWE SmackDown after almost two years on the 16 July 2021 episode.
Balor, a former Universal Champion and Intercontinental Champion, last appeared on SmackDown back in August 2019 when he was feuding with The Fiend Bray Wyatt.
Balor moved back to NXT in October 2019 as the show moved to USA Network. During this time, Balor had won back NXT Championship and had a title reign that lasted around 8 months. Balor dropped the title to Karrion Kross at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver in April. His last match in NXT was also the NXT title match against Kross, which he lost via referee stoppage.
Twitter handle Wrestle Votes broke the news on Friday morning that Balor is expected to return to SmackDown. That report came true when Balor interrupted Sami Zayn’s promo on this week’s SmackDown episode. After making his entrance, Balor thwarted an attack from Zayn and hit him with DDT, shotgun dropkick and Coupe de Grace.
Balor is now likely part of the SmackDown roster again, which became pretty thin after WWE releases several wrestlers in the last one and a half years. Balor is currently now scheduled for Money in the Bank PPV this Sunday.
