Naomi Becomes #1 Contender, Match Set For WWE Super ShowDown
Naomi has become the new #1 contender for WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship against Bayley, setting up the first-ever Women’s title match in Saudi Arabia at WWE Super ShowDown 2020.
Naomi made her return to WWE TV after around 6 months in the Women’s Royal Rumble match. After a good showing at Royal Rumble, the storyline moved towards her getting into the title scene against Bayley. Two weeks back, WWE booked a fatal 4-way match for a new #1 contender against Bayley for WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship. Carmella defeated Naomi, Alexa Bliss and Mandy Rose in that match to get a title shot.
At last week’s SmackDown, Bayley retained the title from Carmella, albeit with some questionable tactics by using the ropes to her advantage. She also continued with a post-match attack on Carmella, leading to Naomi making the save on her. Afterward, Bayley issued a challenge that she is ready to defend her title at Super ShowDown.
This week at SmackDown, Carmella and Naomi went one-on-one for another #1 contender spot. Bayley was once again at hands to cause trouble at the ringside, but before she could do much, the referee booted her to the back. Naomi got the win after an entertaining match and is set to feature in the match against Bayley at WWE Super ShowDown.
This is going to be the first time that a women’s title will be in play in Saudi Arabia. In fact, last October was the first time that a women’s pro-wrestling match took place in the country. Natalya faced Lacey Evans in the said match at WWE Crown Jewel 2019.
WWE Super ShowDown 2020 takes place on 27 February 2020 at Mohammed Abdu Arena on the Boulevard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. 7 matches are confirmed for the event till now.
