Welcome to the live results blog for UFC 269: Oliviera vs Poirier where we will cover the play-by-play updates from the main card and results from early prelims and prelims.

The last UFC PPV of the year, UFC 269 airs on December 11, 2021. The event will take place at T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas, NV. The main event will see another big lightweight championship bout as Charles Oliviera defends his title against #1 contender Dustin Poirier. Oliviera defeated Michael Chandler to win the title while Poirier is coming off two consecutive wins against Conor McGregor.

In the co-main event, Amanda Nunes return to defend her Bantamweight title after two years against #3 ranked bantamweight Julianna Pena. The bout is rescheduled from UFC 265 after Nunes got tested positive for COVID-19 just weeks before that event. Geoff Neal vs Santiago Ponzinibbio welterweight bout, Kai Kara-France vs Cody Garbrandt flyweight bout and Sean O’ Malley taking on Raulian Paiva in a bantamweight bout will complete the main card.

The preliminary card will feature the likes of Josh Emmett, Dan Ige, Dominik Cruz, Pedro Munhez, Tai Tuivasa, Andre Muniz and more.

Sean O’Malley vs Raulian Paiva – Bantamweight bout

Round 1: Paiva starts with front kicks. He catches Malley’s kick and almost trips him. Both men land some low kicks. O’Malley lands an inadvertant groin strike. A high kick from Paiva. Lot of movement from O’Malley. Paiva lands another strike. Sean lands a jab and gets a combo in return. They exchange more blows after landing some strikes. O’Malley lands a hard punch and then goes rampant with lefts and rights, pushing Paiva against the walls. O’Malley continues to big blows even as Paiva drops to the mat. Paiva gets back to his feet but O’Malley keeps landing blows and the referee finally stops the fight just before the first round could end.

Official Result: Sean O’Malley defeated Raulian Paiva at 4:42 in the first round by TKO.

Cody Garbrandt vs Kai Kara-France – Flyweight bout

Round 1: Cody gets the first jab. He tries to sweep Kai’s leg with a kick. Both men remains cautious for more than a minute into the bout. Kai goes for a kick but Cody lands his jabs instead. Kai lands an inside kick gut Cody jabs back at him. Kai drops Cody with a big punch. Another big shot drops Cody once more. Cody recovers and gets on the waist but Kai avoids getting attacked. Back in the middle of the octagon, Kai lands a combo and an uppercut which drops Cody for good. Impressive performance from Kai Kara-France here.

Official Decision: Kai Kara-France defeated Cody Garbrandt via TKO in 3:21 of round 1.

Santiago Ponzinibbio vs Geoff Neal – Welterweight bout

Round 1: Both men are keeping distance in the opening minute. Neal lands a few inside kicks to leg. Santiago defends a high kick. Santiago with a combination of jabs. Neal lands a punch near the left ear. The referee warns Santiago against raking the eyes of his opponent. Neal with quick strikes. Santiago lands a few of his own. Neal is countering mostly now and getting a better attack going. Neal pushes Santiago towards the cage with combination punches and lands a high kick. An accidental goring strike on Santiago as Neal goes for an inside kick with 30 seconds left on the clock. Santiago takes his time to recover. Santiago lands low kick and high kick. He ends the round with a jab. Round belongs to Neal though.

Round 2: Ponzinibbio showing more urgency in this round but Neal is dodging most of it. Ponzinibbio manages a takedown and successfully breaks Neal’s defence. Neal gets back up right away and lands a few shots. Ponzinibbio now coming in wildly and he’s landing some but getting countered more effectively. Ponzinibbio lands some low kicks that are good. Ponzinibbio lands more shots as the round comes to an end.

Round 3: Neal lands a right hook as Ponzinibbio charges at him, but could not capitalize. Neal starts upping the ante and forces Ponzinibbio to defense more. More clean strikes from Neal. Ponzinibbio swings big but does not connect. Finally, the pace quickens up with two minutes left. Ponzinibbio is swinging for big shots. He lands a few low kicks. Neal lands big punches on Ponzinibbio with just a minute left. Neal getting better shots going and Ponzinibbio could just defend. Ponzinibbio tries to force things but Neal has won this.

Official Decision: Geoff Neal defeated Santiago Ponzinibbio by split decision (28-29, 30-27, 29-28).

Amanda Nunes(c) vs Julianna Pena – UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship bout

Round 1: Both women feinting attack but do not engage for the first 30 seconds. Pena slips as Nunes cuts off her charge with low kick. Nunes lands another low kick but also lands a combination of punches. Nunes drops her with a big kick to the midsection. Pena is on her back but Nunes is cautious before getting on top of her. Pena grabs her thighs. We are seeing some grappling game but Nunes gets Pena on her back again. Pena turns over and Nunes puts on a choke. Pena does a good job getting out of that but Nunes has put on a headlock. Pena is working well. She puts on a kimura lock on Nunes, which puts Nunes on the defensive. Nunes manages to end the round without much damage.

Round 2: Pena is on the offensive to start the second round. Pena lands some good shots and then stings her with a big punch. Nunes fires back but eats another shot. Nunes lands her punches as it turns into a brawl. Pena is able to land more shots and Nunes is looking bad now. Pena takes her down and gets on her back to put on a rear-naked choke and gets the win.

Official Decision: Julianna Pena defeated Amanda Nunes via submission in 3:26 of round 2 to become the new UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion.

Charles Oliveira(c) vs Dustin Poirier – UFC Lightweight Championship bout

Round 1: Oliveira lands a jumpnig knee and backs Poirier up. Poirier lands a big shot and forces Oliveira to back up. Oliveira lands a right. Oliveira is mixing it up and keeping the pace high. He gets into clinch a couple of times and pushes Poirier to the walls. Oliveira landing some good knees. Poirier keeps landing his jabs in between. Poirier lands a big left and then an overhead right to drop Oliveira. Oliveira fires back with knees as he quickly gets up. Oliveira with an uppercut and Poirier with a left hook that drops Oliveira again. Poirier was looking to get down but stops since Oliveira is hurt. Poirier is now forcing Oliveira to back peddle as he keeps landing shots on the body. Oliveira is taking a lot of punishment. Poirier lands more punches. Oliviera lands a jumping knee to the face with 10 seconds left on the clock.

Round 2: Oliveira with a kick to ribs and lands more knees. He has put Poirier against the octagon. Poirier tries to take him down but Oliveira gets on his back for a waistlock. Poirier manages to take him down but could not land many punches. Oliveira then gets him on his back. Oliveira is getting punches to upper body. Poirier is holding on his defense with a triangle. Oliveira lands some elbows to his face. Oliveira breaks the triangle defense and lands more elbows. Oliveira is keeping Poirier on the ground. Poirier is not trying to get up also it seems. Oliveira keeps landing more shots.

Round 3: Oliveira is on Poirier’s back and puts on a choke. Poirier is forced to submit.

Official decision: Charles Oliveira defeated Dustin Poirier via submission at 1:02 in round 3 to retain UFC Lightweight Championship.
