Charles Oliviera Confident of a Win Against Dustin Poirier

Charles Oliveira vs Dustin Poirier UFC

UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliviera is confident of defeating Dustin Poirier in their fight projected for December.

Charles Oliviera defeated Michael Chandler at UFC 262 to win the Vacant Lightweight Championship. Poirier passed on the opportunity of this title fight and instead decided to face Conor McGregor in a trilogy fight at UFC 264.

The decision has paid off as Poirier got a much better payday than any of his other fights and also became the number #1 contender for the 155 lbs title after defeating McGregor.

In an interview with MMA Fighting, Oliviera brought up the fact that Poirier vs Nate Diaz fight could be another one that would make Poirier more money.

“I believe Dustin fought Conor because he knew he would be making a lot of money. He passed on the belt to fight for money but knew that he would be next in line with a win. I don’t know what his plans are. I think that a fight with Nate would also give him a lot of money, but I don’t know what’s the logic behind that. Every person thinks one way.”

But “Do Bronx” believes that Oliviera vs Poirier is the right fight to make at this point.

“I believe the right fight to make is Charles Oliveira-Dustin Poirier, but I’m not worried about it. I’m the champion. They are the ones that must run after me and the belt, not the other way around.”

Poirier has opened as the favorite to dethrone Oliviera as per odds when they fight. However, the Champ believes that he would win the war between them if the fight ends up materializing.

“I believe the firepower in my hands, but I think in a fight against Dustin, I believe I can submit him. Working with my hands, with my strikes, I would definitely cause a lot of damage and then submit him. It’s going to be a war, a great fight. He deserves all the respect in the world, he has heavy hands and good jiu-jitsu, too, so I think it’s going to be a great fight, but I believe in my victory.”

Oliviera is currently on a nine-fight winning streak with eight stoppages. Poirier has also won 9 of his last 10 fights.

Oliviera expects that their fight is going to be a great show for the fans.

“It’s going to be a great fight, if this one really happens. It’s going to be a great show, and I’m ready on the feet and on the ground. I’m well both mentally, physically and spiritually. I’m happy. Let’s go. We’ll be defending what’s ours in December.”
