WWE has announced that the prestigious King of the Ring tournament will return this year and will start from next week’s RAW episode on 19 August 2019.
The announcement came at tonight’s RAW episode but no further information is provided. No matches/brackets are announced for what has always been a single-elimination tournament. Also, it is not clear whether the tournament will be specific to only RAW or SmackDown. Nor did WWE has confirmed until now whether the winner would get a future world championship shot like the previous versions of the tournament.
Update: WWE has announced the participating superstars from both RAW and SmackDown side. The list is as below:

SmackDown Side of Participants for King of the Ring Tournament
- Kevin Owens
- Apollo Crews
- Chad Gable
- Buddy Murphy
- Shelton Benjamin
The King of the Ring tournament will return after 4 years with the last tournament coming in 2015. Bad News Barrett was the last winner of the tournament which gave him his new gimmick of King Barrett. Previous winners of the tournament include the likes of Harley Race, Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase, Bret Hart, Owen Hart, William Regal, Billy Gunn, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Edge, Brock Lesnar, Booker T, and Sheamus.
However, it is expected that final of the tournament might take place at Clash of the Champions show on 15 September 2019.
