Reason Behind Toni Storm WWE Release

According to the latest reports, WWE SmackDown superstar Toni Storm asked for her release earlier this month, and the promotion granted her request. 

The main reason behind Toni Storm’s release is still unknown but in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that Storm left because she was burnt out. Meltzer also isn’t clear about whether she is under a 90-days non-compete clause or not. 

Toni Storm was in the middle of a feud with SmackDown women’s champion, Charlotte Flair. She even faced her for the championship on several occasions. Toni Storm’s last match came at WWE Live event where she faced Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks in a triple threat match.

Toni Storm made her WWE debut back in 2017 with the Mae Young Classic tournament. She won the very tournament in 2018 before winning the NXT UK Women’s championship. 

Earlier this year in July, Toni Storm made her main roster debut on the blue brand and also became a part of its women’s Survivor Series team. After that, she got involved in the SmackDown Women’s Championship feud along with Charlotte Flair that will be stopped now because of her release.

2021 was the busiest year in terms of WWE Releases where we saw WWE terminate contracts of several wrestlers in a bunch due to budget cuts. Apart from those releases, there was at least one release every month due to some reason or the other.
