AEW, All Elite Wrestling, has announced that its first women’s champion will be crowned on their TNT TV debut on 2 October this year.

Sports Illustrated is quoting AEW Chief Brand Officer Brandi Rhodes who confirmed the news and expressed the company’s full support for opportunities to succeed for its female talent. In the past also, AEW has expressed that they want to build a strong women’s division including tag team division also.

For many female wrestlers, the opportunity to fight for the title represents the crowning achievement of their careers. The AEW women’s championship will be the cornerstone of the women’s division. The championship will be treated with the utmost respect and prestige. We hope to inspire future female wrestlers to dream of holding such a meaningful title.

Rhodes confirmed that further details regarding the women’s championship, including the qualification matches, will be revealed in “The Road to AEW All Out” video series on YouTube. The next episode of the series is scheduled to air at 8 PM ET next Wednesday. It is highly likely that All Out will see at least a couple of qualification matches for the title shot. AEW will debut with their weekly TV show on TNT on Wednesday, 2 October 2019. The show will air live between 8pm-10pm ET every Wednesday with the first episode airing live from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. The tickets go on sale tomorrow on 2 August at 12 PM ET. The line-up announced for the show is as below:

  • Cody Rhodes vs Sammy Guevara
  • Jon Moxley to appear
  • Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks vs Chris Jericho and 2 Mystery partners
  • AEW Women’s Championship Match
