WWE has released another set of wrestlers today on 2 June 2021 which includes Braun Strowman, Aleister Black, Lana, Ruby Riott, Buddy Murphy and Santana Garrett.
WWE has fired many personnel this year, including wrestlers, commentators, referees and even backstage employees. The first set of release came on 15 April 2021 when a bunch of main roster talents were released. The second set came from NXT, which had around six wrestlers and two referees released.
Fightful Select reported early in the morning that WWE is going to release more wrestlers today. By 11 AM, WWE has announced that they have released Braun Strowman, Aleister Black, Lana, Ruby Riott, Buddy Murphy and Santana Garrett.
Some of these releases are shocking. Braun Strowman was recently part of WWE Championship match at WrestleMania Backlash. He was earlier part of a big match against Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 37.
WWE has invested heavily in Aleister Black in the past two months. They aired several vignettes on SmackDown to build Black’s new character in April and May. Black returned in the ring two weeks back to start a feud with Big E.
Lana has been heavily involved in the Women’s Tag Team title scene since her return in February 2021. She last wrestled on this Monday’s RAW episode where she teamed up with Naomi to lose to Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke.
Ruby Riott also appeared on the last SmackDown episode on Friday where she was defeated by WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Natalya and Tamina.
Buddy Murphy was not used onscreen much since the turn of the year. He worked in a storyline with the Mysterio Family in the last months of 2020. However, he appeared on SmackDown just once in 2021 when he lost to Cesaro in March.
Santana Garrett was called up to SmackDown earlier in March this year, but she never made her onscreen debut on the main roster.
