The New Day wins Gauntlet Match; Kofi Kingston is going to WrestleMania
Kofi Kingston is now confirmed to get the WWE Championship match against the champion Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania this year after The New Day won the Gauntlet Match this week at SmackDown.
After denied of the title match at Fastlane by Vince McMahon and then getting duped off by him again last week at SmackDown, Kofi Kingston and the New Day had put out some videos where they have talked out thinking over their future with WWE after the recent incidents. The New Day came out to open SmackDown this week and said they are thinking about their future with WWE and they could not decide anything until they get some answers directly from Mr. McMahon.
Mr. McMahon came out and Daniel Bryan and Rowan followed him. Bryan got into argument with Woods, calling the New Day a stale novelty act and Kofi a B+ player and Woods replying to him by saying that Bryan is scared to face Kofi one on one. McMahon asked everyone to shut up before agreeing with Bryan over Kofi and New Day’s B+ status. He then announced that if Xavier Woods and Big E can win the Gauntlet Match, he will put Kofi into WrestleMania.
Woods and Big E faced the Good Brothers(Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson), Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura, the Bar(Sheamus and Cesaro), the Usos(Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso) and finally Daniel Bryan and Rowan in the match respectively.
Big E took down Gallows at the apron in the first part of the match and Anderson was hit by UpUpDownDown to be eliminated quickly. The next pair Nakamura and Rusev proved to be much harder to crack but were again eliminated when Nakamura again got hit by UpUpDownDown. The Bar focused on Big E’s injured leg and took control over him but after E took care of Cesaro, Woods rolled up Sheamus to get the pin. However, after the match, the Bar continued to attack Woods and E and sent E through the table.
The Usos came in next and cut a promo where they said Kofi deserves the chance for the WWE Championship and they respect him and the New Day and Forfieted the match. Daniel Bryan and Rowan were the last pair to enter the match and attacked both Woods and E right away. Bryan focused on E’s injured leg by putting him in a calf crusher like submission move until the hold was broken by a missile dropkick from Woods.
Woods also low bridged Rowan and Big E nailed the Big Ending on Bryan only for Rowan to break the pin. As Rowan cleared the announce table, Woods hit Bryan with a tornado DDT at the barricade and avoided the face slam from Rowan to send him into ring post. E followed it up by again crashing Rowan into the post, took him down with a clothesline over the announce table and flips the table over him. As E came back into the ring, the referee counted to 10 on Rowan to give the win to Woods and Big E.
Daniel Bryan will now defend the WWE Championship title against Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania on 7 April at Met Life Stadium, New Jersey.
