Dolph Ziggler is parachuted into a feud with Kofi Kingston and the reason for it might have got clearer now.
WWE’s next show is at King Abdullah Sports City International Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Kofi’s possible challengers have refused to travel to Saudi Arabia. While he was the star of the Greatest Royal Rumble at Jeddah last year, Daniel Bryan did not travel to Saudi in November for Crown Jewel event. He cited the reasons being the country’s treatment to homosexuals as well as about Sami Zayn not being allowed in the country.
This year, Sami Zayn’s friend and the person currently in a feud with Kofi, Kevin Owens has also refused to work in Saudi due to Sami not being allowed. Zayn is from Syrian ancestry and is not allowed to work in Saudi Arabia as the country has cut ties with Syria in 2012.
Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Ziggler being booked for the match was a last minute decision as he was booked to be in Australia that weekend for the Oz Comic-Con. The announcement for Ziggler being pulled out that event came just before SmackDown last night. A replacement is expected to be announced for Ziggler.
While Meltzer specifically did not say that Kevin Owens not traveling to Saudi is the reason Ziggler is brought in, it can entirely be the reason for it. Ziggler returned to WWE last night at SmackDown for the first time since Royal Rumble when he attacked Kofi Kingston. Later, he justified his attack by attributing it to Kofi taking the place and limelight that should have belonged to him in the first place.
WWE Super Showdown will take place on 7 June this year at King Abdullah Sports City International Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. For complete information, news and updates on Super Showdown 2019, you can follow this link.
