World Cup Tournament & Tag Title Set on WWE Smackdown November 11
WWE has announced the start of Smackdown World Cup on WWE SmackDown episode of November 11, 2022.
Additionally, New Day will challenge for Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship against either The Usos or The Brawling Brutes. Shinsuke Nakamura will face Santos Escobar in a singles match.
WWE commentators simply announced that the first-ever Smackdown World Cup will start next week. It is going to be an 8-man knockout tournament. No other details were provided. However, we can expect superstars from different countries to be included in the tournament. Drew McIntyre(Scotland), Gunther(Germany), Santos Escobar(Mexico), Shinsuke Nakamura(Japan) and some of the stars billed from countries other than US.
The Usos are nearing the record of longest-reigning WWE Tag Team Champions. They have now held Smackdown tag team titles for 474 days since winning it from The Mysterios at Money in the Bank 2021. The current record for the longest tag team title reign on the main roster lies with New Day as WWE RAW Tag Team Champions for 483 days(Gallus on NXT UK held the titles for 497 days).
The Usos will defend the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship against The Brawling Brutes at WWE Crown Jewel. New Day announced this week on SmackDown that they will be waiting for the winner of that match on next week’s SmackDown episode. This means the Usos will have to defend the titles twice during this time if they want to become the longest-reigning tag champions.
Shinsuke Nakamura was a surprise partner for Hit-Row last week for a trios tag team match as they defeated Legado Del Fantasma. LDF’s leader Santos Escobar will take on Nakamura in a singles match next week to settle the score. Will he be successful in taking down the King of Strong Styles? And will this match be under SmackDown World Cup? Keep tuned in to find out.
