Welcome to the live results blog for WWE SmackDown September 29, 2023 episode, which is airing live from Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA.
Two matches were announced for the show with Rey Mysterio defending WWE United States Championship against Santos Escobar. Charlotte Flair was also set to take on Bayley in a singles match to continue their rivalry, with Women’s Champion Iyo Sky in Bayley’s corner.
Bobby Lashley was set to feature on The Grayson Waller Effect amid some tension with The Street Profits. What was the fallout of Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa beating up John Cena? Did we see more matches being announced for Fastlane 2023 PLE? Tune in below to find out.

Bloodline’s Version of Last Week!
Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa come out with Paul Heyman. Heyman takes the mic and says he gets to do a live proclamation on SmackDown that they acknowledge their Tribal Chief, and so do each and everyone in attendance. They do so because it is in his name that the second-best of all time, John Cena took a beating almost in a decade. He sends us to a recap. Heyman then says Cena is having some transportation issues and is not here at SmackDown at this moment. Heyman then brings up AJ Styles being in hospital.
Jimmy then snatches the mic from Heyman. Jimmy says Cena is not here tonight because Cena is scared of him. He tells Cena to be away from Bloodline otherwise he will also be sent to hospital like AJ Styles. Karl Anderson attacks Solo and Jimmy and force them out of the ring. Anderson then says it is not just AJ Styles business, but The OC business now. Solo is about to go after him but Heyman tells something in his ears. Solo then tells Jimmy to take care of it, or he will take care of it for him. Jimmy says he will.
Karl Anderson vs Jimmy Uso
Match is already started as the broadcast returns from the break. Anderson is hitting chops in the corner before switching to stomps. Anderson then hits a jumping knee in the corner. Jimmy runs into a spinebuster from Anderson for a two-count. Solo distracts the referee and Jimmy rakes Anderson’s eyes. Jimmy hits some quick punches. He hits a superkick. Jimmy then hits a Usos splash from the top to get the pinfall.
Winner – Jimmy Uso
Anderson attacks Jimmy after the match, but Solo drops him quickly. Jimmy and Solo pose briefly before they return. Michin meets them on the stage and drops Jimmy with a slap.
Santos Escobar is interviewed backstage. Santos says he is very focused but he has butterflies in stomach, but he will give his best against Rey. May the best man win.
Jimmy is angry backstage and is pushing crew members away. Heyman calls Roman Reigns.
Grayson Waller Effect with Bobby Lashley
Waller is in the ring and says Cena is not on time, but he is here to save the show. Waller then moves to talk about Lashley who is having trouble scouting, but will get Grayson Waller rub.. Lashley makes his entrance. Waller says he really appreciates Lashley for coming to the show. He brings The Street Profits’ loss week. Lashley says he made a mistake in recruiting, and it is back to the drawing board.
Waller then pitches Lashley recruiting him and Austin Theory. Lashley passes on Theory. Waller tries to convince him when the Street Profits’ music hit. Lashley tells them that he does not want excuses, but prove it if they want him. Lashley leaves the ring and The Profits follow him out. Waller announces Austin Theory who comes out.
Cameron Grimes vs Austin Theory
Theory is arguing with Dragon Lee who is in the front row. Grimes hits a big boot to start the match. Grimes runs him over with forearms, an inverted atomic drop and a spinebuster. Theory hits back from the ropes. Grimes hypes up and fires some shots. Theory whips him to the corner. Grimes comes back with a crossbody. He hits a deadlift German suplex. Theory slips to the floor. Grimes hits him with a kick from the apron. Waller distracts Grimes and Theory attacks him from behind. Theory hits A-Town Down in the ring to get the pinfall.
Winner – Austin Theory
Lee takes a shot at Theory when Theory comes to ringside to argue. Lee takes a shot but the altercation does not go ahead with the referee separating them quickly.
Rey Mysterio is interviewed backstage. He says he has nothing but love and respect for Santos Escobar. But, he will give Escobar the fight of his life. Rey makes his entrance. He hugs Dragon Lee in the front row.
Jimmy Uso is beating up Ashante Adonis backstage. Solo Sikos is beside him. The crew separate Jimmy who asks Adonis if he wanted to be John Cena’s partner.
Rey Mysterio(c) vs Santos Escobar – WWE United States Championship
Escobar gets Rey in a waistlock with his legs around him. Mysterio escapes when Escobar goes for a pinfall. Mysterio is sent to the apron and kicked off it. Escobar hits a crossbody on the floor. We cut to a break.
Escobar has a hammer lock on as we return. Rey gets to his feet. Escobar hits a shoulder tackle and a dropkick to get a two-count. Rey hits a hurricanrana to send Escobar to the floor and follows up with a crossbody. Rey hits a seated senton and a crossbody to take Escobar down. Rey is also down after that move. We see Jimmy Uso still beating up people backstage. Solo is also dropping people left and right. Rey hits a dropkick before setting him up on the ropes. Escobar cuts him off with a superkick. He signals to let the arrow fly as he hits a suicide dive.
Escobar hits a moonsault on the floor by jumping off the barricade. Escobar hits jumping knee in the corner as they return to the ring. Escobar hits a Meteora in the corner next. Escobar puts Rey to the top rope. Rey fights back to put him down. Escobar hits him with an enzuigiri and a hurricanrana off the top rope. He hits a springboard splash to get a two-count. We cut to another break.
Escobar hits a big shot at his back before a kick to midsection. Escobar puts on a Gory special stretch. Rey counters it to break free. Quick back and forth before Escobar misses a crossbody. Rey also misses a crossbody as Escobar ducks. Escobar hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. He puts on a modified torture rack before hitting a backbreaker to get a two-count. Rey blocks a powerbomb and hits a kick to his face.
They are on the top rope now. Escobar gets him on the shoulders. Rey fights back and hits a hurricanrana from the show. Rey goes for 619 but Escobar blocks it. Rey hits it in second attempt. Rey takes a bit of time before hitting a frog splash, which allows Escobar to dodge it. Escobar goes for a cover but Rey counters it with a backslide. Rey counters Phantom Driver into an inside cradle to get the pinfall.
Winner – Rey Mysterio
Escobar is distraught at the loss. Rey gives him a hand after celebrating his win. The Street Profits attack Escobar and Rey in the ring. Lashley comes out and tackles Joaquin Wilde. Dragon Lee wants to get involved but is held back by security. The Street Profits beat up Wilde for a while.
After the break, Rey and Escobar are interviewed backstage. Rey says Lashley and The Street Profits act like they run SmackDown. So, they challenge them at Fastlane.
We see a recap of Iyo Sky vs Asuka match from last week. Charlotte Flair makes her entrance.
We see John Cena arriving to the arena.
We see a comedy vignette as Elton Prince works out to return from his injury with Kit Wilson. The Brawling Brutes are watching this from and wonder if they should have broken his leg.
Charlotte Flair vs Bayley
After Bayley enters, Flair asks her what has happened to her. She was one of the 4 horsewomen but now she is a stepping stone. Flair says she will challenge Iyo for the women’s title at Fastlane after her win tonight. Bayley rushes her to get the match started. Some attack from Bayley. Flair hits back with chops. Bayley sends her to the floor and jumps on her back to take us to a break.
More back and forth action after the break. Flair attacks Bayley’s knees to soften them up. She hits a big boot to get a two-count. Flair gets to the top rope but Bayley pulls her back down and stomps on her. She sends Flair into the turnbuckle with a sunset flip. She hits some big chops. Flair hits her with a spear as Bayley comes off the ropes to get the pinfall.
Winner – Rey Mysterio
Bayley is irate after the match and tells Flair that they will end her tonight. Sky, Dakota and Bayley surround the ring but Asuka runs out to stand with Flair in the ring. Asuka takes the mic and screams something in Japanese. Bayley says if Asuka want a triple-threat match at Fastlane, they have got it. Sky tells Bayley that Asuka did not ask that, but Bayley is not listening to her at all.
Who will be Cena’s Partner?
John Cena comes out after the break. He has a contract in his hand. Cena says he wants to compete, but The Bloodline did not like it. But they have left him with the contract for a match at Fastlane. Cena says he does not have a partner for the match though, and he will fight alone if he does not find one. Jimmy and Solo come out. Jimmy tells Cena how they have run rampant telling everyone not to team up with him.
Cena decks Jimmy off the apron. Solo gets into the ring and Cena gets him up for AA. Jimmy hits him with a superkick. Hip attacks from both men before they set up Cena on the table. LA Knight’s music hits and he runs out to beat up Solo and Jimmy with quick shots. Cena comes in and throws Jimmy and Solo out of the ring. Knight picks up the contract and signs it. The show goes off the air.
