WWE SmackDown April 12, 2024 episode was the blue brand’s first show after WrestleMania 40. Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes was set to appear on the show. Two triple threat matches were set to find out two fighters in the #1 contender match for Cody’s first challenger.
WWE Women’s Champion Bayley was also set to make an appearance. Tune in below as we post results and live updates from WWE Friday Night Smackdown April 12, 2024 episode on FOX.
RESULTS & UPDATES
The show opened with a recap from WrestleMania 40.
Cody Rhodes made his entrance as the champion on SmackDown for the first time. He first talked about The Rock who handed him something on RAW. Cody said Rock is gone to Hollywood for now, but he would be waiting for him to return. However, right now, Cody said it’s time to look forward. He announced how his challenger would be determined with two triple threat matches tonight, winner from where would go into a #1 contender match next week.
Backstage, we see Kevin Owens entered Cody’s locker room. The Bloodline(Paul Heyman, Solo Sikoa & Jimmy Uso) were watching him in shock for some reason.
LA Knight defeated Santos Escobar & Bobby Lashley in a triple threat match to advance to #1 contender match for Universal Championship. Legado Del Fantasma attacked Knight when he was looking for BFT on Escobar. Lashley tried to fight them off before The Street Profits had to come out to clear Legado. Lashley missed a spear on Escobar and crashed into the ringpost. Knight hit BFT on Escobar to get the pinfall.
Solo Sikoa led the entrance with Jimmy Uso and Paul Heyman behind him. Paul Heyman talked about how Cody Rhodes took his eyes off at WrestleMania 39 when he was distracted by Solo and ended up losing that match. He then explained how Roman Reigns was distracted by Seth Rollins in his desire to take revenge of the betrayal 10 years ago and paid it’s price by losing the Universal title. Solo Sikoa then interrupted Heyman and said there got to be consequences for losing. He moved towards Jimmy Uso, teasing a beatdown, but then hugged him. As he separated, a hooded figure attacked Jimmy from behind. It was Tama Tonga who made his WWE debut. Solo hit Jimmy with several Samoa Spikes. Paul Heyman was shaken up as Solo told him to join in holding up “The One”. Heyman tried to call Roman Reigns, but Solo snatched his phone and broke it. Solo hit a hip attack on Jimmy with a chair on.
Bron Breakker defeated Cameron Grimes in a singles match. This was a short match, with Grimes barely getting in any offense. Breakker finished the match with a big spear to get a pinfall.
WWE Women’s Champion Bayley came out to the ring and said she was proud to be the champion. She had someone in mind as her first challenger. Tiffany Stratton’s music hit as he came out. Bayley told her that she had Noami in her mind as her first challenger. Stratton said she had already beaten Naomi. Naomi came out and challenged Stratton to face her right away.
Backstage, Kayla Braxton is outside the medical room for an update on Jimmy Uso. Paul Heyman was still shaken up as he tried to get an update, but Tama Tonga came up and told him, “by the orders of The Tribal Chief”. Solo also came in and stared Heyman down.
We got a video package from new SmackDown Tag Team Champions Austin Theory and Grayson Waller claiming that everyone assembled at WrestleMania to see them. The Street Profits and New Catch Republic were watching the video alongside SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis who said that he would find new challengers for them.
Chelsea Green & Piper Niven made their entrance. We cut to a video clip of Green and Niven with Nick Aldis with Green complaining about Adam Pearce throwing her to Jade Cargill on RAW this week. She said Aldis would never do that to her. Aldis said he had got her opponents for tonight.
Jade Cargill & Bianca Belair defeated Chelsea Green & Piper Niven in a tag team match. Bianca hit a body slam on Green to send her running out. Niven beat up Bianca before Bianca avoided Vader Bomb. Cargill came in and finished Green with the Jaded to get the pinfall.
Kevin Owens was interviewed backstage before the main event. He said he would like to talk while walking down in the cool single camera shot from backstage to the ring which had been the craze for the last few weeks. He hyped himself to win the main event.
AJ Styles defeated Rey Mysterio & Kevin Owens in a triple threat match to advance to #1 contender match for Universal Championship. In the final minute of the match. Owens hit Mysterio with a stunner on the apron. Styles got his knees up on the Swanton bomb from Owens. When Rey came in, AJ hit him with a Super Styles Clash on top of Owens before pinning Rey.
After the match, LA Knight came into the ring. AJ and LA argued got into each other’s face and argued as the show went off the air.
