WWE SmackDown Results- 29 May 2020- Battle Royal, Bryan vs Sheamus

A Moment of Bliss

Nikki and Alexa enter the ring and Nikki is excited for tonight’s guests. New Day make their way to the ring. This is the tag team championship summit where both teams are going to scope out the competition. Nikki hands New Day with some Scottish pancakes made from her grandma’s recipe. New Day duo also make a coffee for Alexa from the ingredients from their costume. Bliss leaves the coffee for later. She asks New Day about their challengers and they reply that The Forgotten Sons stand out. They rever the question back to Bliss and Cross.

Sasha Banks and Bayley make their entrance. Bayley takes the mic on her way to the ring and tells us she does not see the best tag team in the ring. Sasha enters the ring and throws her sweatshirt at Bliss. Cross sarcastically congratulates Bayley for her win against Charlotte. Bayley tells her to calm down Bliss. Bliss burns her by saying that the moment Bayley started speaking, she stopped listening. She also takes a shot at Sasha for being the only non-champion in the ring.

Sasha points out how they were the first women’s tag team champions and would like to take the titles back. Bliss accepts the challenge and wants the time and place. Bayley replies by setting up a singles match between Bliss and Sasha. Sasha is livid with Bayley as she is not in her ring gear. Bayley tells her that she will bring her boots from the back and leaves. Bliss throws her Sasha’s sweatshirt at her and dropkicks her out of the ring.

Sasha Banks vs Alexa Bliss

Back from the break and the match is about to start. Nikki Cross and Bayley are on commentary arguing. Sasha slams Bliss into the turnbuckle to start but Bliss quickly comes back with some roll-ups and pin attempts. Sasha also gets some pin attempts. Bliss slaps her across the face after catching a kick. She follows with moonsault knee drops. Sasha counters in the corner and hits double knees. She is unloading on Bliss now.

Slaps and kicks continue from Sasha in the corner. She hits another double knee in the middle to get a two-count. Sasha with a shoulder stretch as Nikki starts cheering her up. She gets the other trainees in the ring to join her. Bliss comes out of the stretch and kicks Sasha. Sasha gets another two-count with a backbreaker. More strikes by Sasha in the corner now until Bliss slaps her and then drops her face-first onto the mat.

Both women are down and get up at the same time. Bliss with a couple of clotheslines and then counters Sasha with a dropkick. Sasha slams her face into the turnbuckle and hits double knees to get a two-count. Bliss flips her for a two-count. She sends her into the corner with head scissors and then drops her with an elbow. Bliss gets on the top when Bayley tries to interfere. Nikki also comes to the apron and Bayley sends her into Bliss. Bliss drops in the ring and Sasha hits Meteora for the pin.

Cesaro(w/ Shinsuke Nakamura) vs Shorty G

Shorty G starts with two rolling kick. Cesaro misses a move in the corner. Shorty rolls him up and follows with a moonsault from the top for a two-count. Shorty with some more quick offense as he starts to work on Cesaro’s knees. Cesaro finally gets something in the match with a vicious clothesline. A leg drop gets him a two-count. Cesaro with an uppercut. Shorty blocks the gutwrench suplex first time but Cesaro overpowers him and hits the move to get another two-count. Cesaro keeps control until G dropkicks on his knees.

Cesaro catches Shorty G and hits a powerbomb to get a close count. More back and forth now. Cesaro levels G with a huge uppercut for another close count but G continues to kick out just in time. G counters the Neutralizer with a roll-up. G kicks out two ties in a row. Cesaro catches his rolling kick again and goes for another powerbomb. G counters with another roll-up and this time he gets the pin.

Winner- Shorty G

We see Mandy Rose and Otis at the poolside, enjoying their champagne. Mandy is so excited for their day alone. Otis wants to get into the pool and asks if Rose wants to go. She says she is tired and wants to take a nap. Otis heads over to the pool and Rose takes a nap. We are in Mandy’s steamy dream now where he imagines Otis being hot and kissing him. Otis splashes into the pool which wakes up Mandy. Otis apologizes to Mandy for waking her up. Mandy says she was having a dream and get into the pool to make out with him.

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle is backstage now. He says he used to run SmackDown alongside Eddie Guerrero, John Cena, The Undertaker and Edge. He puts over Randy Orton vs Edge match at Backlash. Now, he wants to talk about the future and about the next face of SmackDown, Matt Riddle. Angle mentions how he was the referee in the WWE NXT Cage Fight where Timothy Thatcher defeated Matt Riddle. We get a video package on Matt Riddle next where he sells how laid back and chill he is outside but cranks it up in the ring.

We cut to Kayla Braxton at backstage. She was about to say something about Riddle but Sheamus interrupts her. He talks about getting the result rather while Jeff Hardy and Riddle get all the hype. He is going for the one title he hasn’t won in WWE, and won’t let someone like AJ Styles or Bryan stand in his way as he becomes Grand Slam Champion. Bryan walks up and gets in Sheamus’ face. They face off and Sheamus starts taunting Bryan. Bryan stomps on his foot and walks off.

Next week, The Miz and John Morrison will give a warning to Braun Strowman. Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross will defend the titles against The Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection.

Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus – Semifinal of Intercontinental Championship Tournament

Daniel Bryan heads out for his match after the break with Yes chants from the trainees in the crowd. Sheamus gets some boos as he heads out. They lock up and Sheamus grounds Bryan. Bryan puts his arms at the back for a stretch. Sheamus with judo like throw to toss Bryan across the ring. Sheamus with a shoulder stretch now and Bryan takes him to the corner for strikes. Sheamus explodes out of the corner to take him down. Blows and uppercuts follow. Another shoulder stretch from Sheamus now. Bryan dodges Sheamus and takes him down after running the ropes. Sheamus moves out and Bryan hits a suicide dive as we go to the break.

Bryan is trying to put Sheamus in an armbar as we return. Sheamus rains him down with elbows in the corner. He wears down Bryan with more knee strikes. He embraces the boos from the ground before sending Bryan out of the ring with a knee. Bryan is sent into the barricade now and Sheamus taunts Michael Cole now. A clothesline off the top rope gets Sheamus a near fall. Bryan starts to fight back with uppercuts after Sheamus taunts him over his 20 seconds win over Bryan at WrestleMania 2011.

Sheamus takes him down with a clothesline and puts Bryan in the cloverleaf. Bryan reaches the ropes to break the hold. Bryan fights back at the apron now. He goes to the top and Sheamus trips him there. Bryan blocks the superplex from the top. He pushes Sheamus down and hits a avalanche dropkick. The Yes Kicks start. Sheamus ducks the final one and Bryan takes him down with a crucifix now for a two-count. Sheamus is able to hit white noise to get a near fall. Sheamus hits some punches and uppercuts in the corner.

Bryan drops him on the turnbuckle with a toe-hold. Bryan starts a series of running knees in the corner and Sheamus runs him over with a double ax handle. Sheamus gets ready for the Brogue kick when Jeff Hardy comes down the ramp. Bryan catches Sheamus with the running knee to get the pin.

Winner – Daniel Bryan, reaches the final of the tournament

After the bell, Hardy comes into the ring and attacks Sheamus. Sheamus gets away and retreats up the ramp and then to the back. Jeff stands tall in the ring. The announcers tell us that Styles vs Bryan will take place in two weeks’ time. Jeff claps and poses in the ring as SmackDown goes off the air.
