WWE SmackDown episode of January 20, 2023, will be the second last episode before Royal Rumble 2023 and will feature a contract signing segment for a match at the event.

Royal Rumble Contract Signing
Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens are set to collide at Royal Rumble where The Tribal Chief will defend his Undisputed Universal Championship. To make that match official, Owens and Reigns will sit down for sign the contract this week on SmackDown. As it has become a clique that these contract-signing segments usually end up with turning into a brawl. Will it be the case once again? What will be the progression in Sami Zayn’s storyline?
Banger Bros vs Viking Raiders
Sheamus and Drew McIntyre were attacked by The Viking Raiders after they were defeated by the Usos two weeks back on SmackDown. They went to Adam Pearce with Sheamus asking for a rematch againsst The Usos while Drew asking for a match against The Viking Raiders. Pearce then announced that a tag team tournament where the winner will become the #1 contender for SmackDown Tag Team Championship.
With this setup, they hit two birds with one stone. McIntyre & Sheamus will face The Viking Raiders in the first round. And if they succeed to win the tournament, they get another shot at The Usos. Will they be successfull or will The Viking Raiders play spoilsports?
