Welcome to the live blog for WWE Saturday Night Main Event 38 which was live on January 25, 2025.

4 matches and one segment were announced for the show. Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens signed the contract for their Ladder match at Royal Rumble with Shawn Michaels as the co-ordinator. Gunther defended World Heavyweight Championship against Jey Uso in the main event.

Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley faced Nia Jax. Bron Breakker and Sheamus clashed over Intercontinental Championship. Two big men clashed as Braun Strowman took on Jacob Fatu. Check below as we provide live updates and complete results from WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event XXXVIII event.

RESULTS

  • Rhea Ripley(c) defeated Nia Jax in a singles match via pinfall to retain Women’s World Championship.
  • Bron Breakker(c) def. Sheamus in a singles match via pinfall to retain WWE Intercontinental Championship.
  • Braun Strowman def. Jacob Fatu in a singles match via disqualification.
  • Gunther(c) def. Jey Uso – World Heavyweight Championship

Live Updates

The show starts with some arrivals which includes that of “The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase. Jesse Ventura joined Joe Tessitorine on the stage to discuss tonight’s card.

Rhea Ripley(c) v Nia Jax – Women’s World Championship

Nia takes a shot at Rhea during the announcement to drop her. Rhea avoids her in the corner after the bell rings and hits her with a dropkick and a DDT. Nia rolls out to the floor which gives Rhea a chance to hit her with a cannonball. Back to the ring, Nia hits a pop-up headbutt and rams her in the corner before hitting a Samoan drop from the top rope. We cut to a break.

Rhea lands on her feet on a back body drop. She hits a clothesline and a chop but Nia stands her ground to block a hurricanrana. Rhea then hits a Code Red to get a close two count. Rhea looks for her finisher but Nia slams her to the mat and hits a leg drop from the second rope. Nia sets up for A-Nia-Hilator but Rhea picks her from the ropes to hit a powerbomb. Rhea tries to put on the Prism lock but Nia is too big for it.

Nia catches Rhea in the corner to hit Urinage. Rhea attacks her in the corner to force her to get to the floor. Rhea then hits her with a crossbody from the top rope. Back to the ring, Rhea looks for The Riptide again but Nia blocks it again to slam her to the mat. Nia hits A-Nia-Hilator. She wants to hit another one, but some showboating costs her as Rhea pulls her down. Rhea hits a question mark kick and The Riptide to get the pinfall.

Winner – Rhea Ripley

Bron Breakker(c) vs Sheamus – WWE Intercontinental Championship

Bron pushes Sheamus in the corner after the lock up. Sheamus blocks a kick and runs over Bron with a clotheslines. Bron comes back with a snap suplex. He runs the ropes rapidly and then hits a clothesline which sends Sheamus to the floor. Bron looks for a tackle by running around the ring, but Sheamus scoops him up and drops him in the timekeeper’s area. Sheamus looks for 10 Beats of Bothran but Bron slips away. Sheamus jumps off the stairs into a spear from Bron. Both men are down on the floor as we cut to a break.

They are fighting in the corner as we return. Bron drops Sheamus on his knees a couple of times to get a two-count. Sheamus starts to pump up after Bron slaps him. He hits a pump kick to get a two-count. Sheamus hits 10 Beats of Bothran after this. He follows up with The Celtic Cross to get a close two-count. Bron slips out of another Celtic Cross and hits a Gorilla Press slam to get a two-count for himself.

Sheamus kicks him from the corner and goes to the top rope. Bron hits him with a Frankestiener from the top rope. Sheamus counters a spear with the Brogue kick. Bron gets his leg to the ropes to break the pinfall. Sheamus pumps up again but his ribs gave out. Bron hits a tackle. Sheamus hits a knee. Bron hits a spear to get the pinfall.

Winner – Bron Breakker

WWE Championship Contract Signing

Shawn Michaels is in the ring to oversee the contract signing. He announces Kevin Owens who comes out with the Winged Eagle WWE Championship belt. Cody Rhodes comes with the current WWE title belt and stands opposite KO, staring him directly in the eyes. HBK asks them to get seated, but they ignore him. He goes on to ask them to sign the papers. Cody goes on and signs it. KO goes to sign it, but takes the mic instead. He takes offense on Cody saying KO would take easy way out everytime. He claims he did not go after Cody’s knee in their last match, since he cared about their friendship more than Cody ever did. KO also says that he did not take the easy way out and did not quit WWE like Cody did.

Cody tells him to shup up and says he could not care less about KO and focus on who he will defend his title against at WrestleMania. KO says Cody would not stop caring about him since after signing the contract, their match will be official, and he will take away the title from him. Michaels says it seems like KO is jealous of Cody. KO snaps back at him saying that Michaels also quit WWE when things got tough and may be Michaels is jealous of KO since he made this Winged Eagle title more meaningful than HBK ever could.

KO signs the contract. Michaels then asks a referee to come in and hang the titles. The referee comes in, takes the titles from both men and hangs them up for next week’s match. HBK stands between the two fighters. KO takes a cheap shot at Cody behind HBK. When HBK argues with him, KO goes to attempt a package piledriver on HBK, but Cody hits him with a superkick to stop him. HBK also hit sweet chin music on KO to close the segment.

Braun Strowman vs Jacob Fatu

They lock up and Jacob pushes Strowman a bit before Strowman throws him away. Strowman hits a running tackle. Jacob hits a headbutt. Strowman throws him to the ropes. Jacob throws hands before a tackle and then uses a low bridge to get Strowman to the floor. Jacob hits a suicide dive to take us to the break.

Strowman hits back with a side walk slam. He lands a big slap before a couple of elbow strikes and a big boot. He unloads with more shots in the corner. Jacob rolls to the floor. Strowman starts the Train, runs around the ring and tackles Jacob. Strowman does the same again and pushes him over the announce table. Strowman goes for it the third time, but Jacob uses his momentum this time to drop him onto the announce table. Jacob throws Strowman into the steel steps.

Back in the ring, Jacob hits hip attacks in the corner several times. The referee tries to stop him after the sixth hip attack but Jacob throws him out. Jacob hits two more hip attacks before the referee calls for a disqualification.

Winner – Braun Strowman(via DQ)

Jacob throws a steel chair in the ring, but a hoard of officials come out led by SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. Jacob pushes them away and hits a moonsault on Strowman. Tama Tonga has also come out and tries to talk Jacob down. But Jacob hits Strowman with another moonsault. Jacob leaves the ring, but gets back for one more moonsault.

Gunther(c) vs Jey Uso – World Heavyweight Championship

Gunther catches Jey off guard with a dropkick while Jey was throwing his glasses into the crowd. Jey fights back and they go back-and-forth briefly. Gunther chops at Jey on the top rope to drop him to the floor. We cut to a break.

We return to see Gunther hitting a clothesline to stop Jey’s momentum. Gunther slams Jey to the mat before a body slam and some chops. Jey hits quick punches but Gunther hits back with chops. Jey hits a big uppercut. Gunther whips him hard to the corner and stomps on him. Gunther chokes on his arm but Jey tries to counter it with a Samoan Drop. Gunther slips away but Jey catches him off the ropes to hit a Samoan Drop.

Jey looks for a hip attack but Gunther recovers quickly to hit a shotgun dropkick. Gunther hits a powerbomb quickly to get a two-count. Gunther keeps beating him up to take us to another break.

They trade elbows as we return. Gunther hits a boot. Jey hits an enzuigiri. Gunther hits a German Suplex. Jey hits a superkick to get a two-count. Gunther misses a shotgun dropkick and Jey hits a hip attack in the corner. Jey gets to the top rope but Gunther meets him there with a chop. Gunther attempts a superplex, but Jey blocks it and slips underneath to hit a sit-out powerbomb for a near fall.

Gunther hits a kick to midsection and goes for a powerbomb. Jey counters it with a sunset flip and hits a spear. Gunther kicks out of the pin. Jey hits a superkick and another spear. He hits a Usos Splash next, but Gunther kicks out once again. Gunther blocks a spear and hits two back-to-back powerbombs to get the pinfall.

Winner – Gunther
