WWE officially announced two matches for August 21, 2023, episode of RAW, including Gunther vs Chad Gable for the Intercontinental Championship.

Gunther is set to defend his WWE Intercontinental title against Chad Gable on August 21 episode of RAW. Gable got the title opportunity on the August 7 episode of RAW by winning the Fatal 4-way match.

During the August 14 episode of RAW, Gable defeated Giovanni Vinci in a one-on-one match. After the match, Gunther challenged Otis, and Gunther successfully defeated Otis. After the match, Gable delivered a Chaos Theory to Gunther.

Later in the show, there was a backstage segment featuring The Imperium, during which Gunther expressed his dissatisfaction with his stablemates, Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser. After the conservation, Gunther announced that he would defend his title against Gable next week on RAW. Later on, WWE set the match for the next week.

Gunther recently defended his WWE Intercontinental Championship against Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam 2023 PLE.

A Tag Team bout is also set where The New Day (Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston) will face Matt Riddle and Drew McIntyre on the August 21 episode of RAW.

During the August 14 episode of RAW, Matt Riddle and Drew McIntyre defeated The Viking Raiders (Erik and Ivar). After the match backstage, Riddle was celebrating his victory with McIntyre, and Riddle mentioned that they would go for WWE Tag Team Championship.

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods intervened Riddle and McIntyre backstage. They pointed out that Riddle had only won a match due to his partnership with McIntyre. Kofi then declared that The New Day would face Riddle and McIntyre next week on RAW. He also added that the victorious team would earn the opportunity to challenge for the Tag Team Title.

Kingston recently made his return on the August 7 episode of RAW after recovering from an ankle injury.

August 21, 2023 episode of WWE RAW will be live from Centre Videotron, Quebec City, QC, Canada. Below is the announced line-up for the show:

  • Gunther vs Chad Gable for Intercontinental Championship
