WWE NXT New Year’s Evil 2023 event took place on January 10, 2023. This was the third New Year’s Evil show in NXT and will be a weekly special. The show aired from Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando, FL.

SYNOPSIS

NXT is airing New Year’s Evil special show in early January every year since 2021. The 2023 edition of the show will be the third event in New Year’s Evil series. The show was confirmed during the broadcast of NXT Deadline 2022 event.

Grayson Waller won the Iron Survivor Challenge match at NXT Deadline to become the #1 contender for NXT Championship. The match is now set for New Year’s Evil episode of New Year’s Evil. Waller attacked Bron Breakker at Deadline after he successfully retained his title. Waller once again got upper hand as he used a steel plate under his jacket to counter a spear from Breakker.

Indus Sher tag team of Veer and Sanga started appearing around The Creed Brothers in December 2022. They cut a promo saying that NXT Universe does not respect them and challenged The Creed Brothers for a tag team match saying that a win over Creeds will get them due recognition. They also saved Brutus from a post-match attack when JD McDonagh tried to hit Brutus with a steel chair since they want The Creed Brothers to be at 100%. At the event, Veer was not present for undisclosed reasons. Sanga came out and told The Creed Brothers that he will honour the match with a 2-on-1 contest. However, Jinder Mahal attacked The Creed Brothers from behind. Later, Julius Creed got a match against Jinder Mahal.

Dijak returned to NXT and attacked Wes Lee after he successfully defended the North American Championship against Carmelo Hayes on November 22 episode of NXT. Dijak made it clear that he wants a shot at North American title. Dijak also saved Wes Lee from outside interference when Lee defended the title against D’Angelo. After Dijak defeated Stacks, Tony challenged Dijak for a match at New Year’s Evil. Lee later announced that the winner of this match will be next in line to face him for the title.

Drew Gulak. with Hank Walker, was presenting different grappling methods on NXT episode of December 27. Charlie Dempsey interrupted him and challenged him for a match. However, Dempsey suffered an injury. However, Dempsey then challenged Walker for a match at New Year’s Evil.

Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne were addressing the fans and claiming that 2023 will be their year. Cora Jade, Nikkita Lyons, Wendy Choo, Zoey Stark and many others from women’s division interrupted them. This led to a big brawl between them. NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez then appeared and announced a 20-Woman Battle Royal with the winner getting a shot at the title at Vengeance Day.

New Day defeated Pretty Deadly at NXT Deadline to win NXT Tag Team Championship. Pretty Deadly asked for a rematch but New Day keep handing them different tasks to complete in order to get another title shot. Getting fed up with the tasks, Pretty Deadly said they would run a gauntlet against 3 teams, but they should get a shot at the titles if they win the match.
