Welcome to the live results blog for WWE NXT New Year’s Evil 2023 event which featured NXT Championship match and a Battle Royal.

Bron Breakker defended NXT Championship against a new contender in Grayson Waller. Many men from JD McDonagh, Tyler Bate, Ilja Dragunov, Apollo Crews and others have tried to dethrone Breakker. Was Waller the one to finally take the title off him?

New #1 contenders were determined for NXT Women’s Championship via a 20-woman battle royal. The winner earned the chance to challenge Roxanne Perez at NXT Vengeance Day. Who are those contenders?

Pretty Deadly ran a tag team Gauntlet in order to get a shot at tag team titles. Charlie Dempsey took on Hunk Walker. Dijak and Tony D’Angelo clashed in a #1 contender’s match for NXT North American Championship.

LIVE UPDATES

The show opens with a video package in Chase University. Andre Chase tells all his students, including Duke Hudson and Thea Hail, that everyone gets a fresh start at the start of this new semester. Chase goes through the match card before bringing up how Thea Hail will be taking part in her biggest match so far when she takes part in Women’s Battle Royal. Hail is not confident about the match and Chase gives her a motivating speech.

Dijak vs Tony D’Angelo – #1 contender’s match for NXT North American Championship

Wes Lee is on the commentary for this match. They start with punches before Tony clotheslines Dijak to the floor. Dijak goes for a big boot but Tony side steps and his leg crashes in the steel steps. Dijak pulls Tony out of the ring after he breaks the countdown. Dijak hits some punches before they get back to the ring.

Dijak puts on an arm wringer on Tony. Tony slams him to the corner before hitting a clothesline. Dijak throws him on the ropes with a back body drop before a clothesline. Dijak hits some back elbows. A big clothesline from Tony takes both men to the floor. Dijak throws Tony into the barricade but Stacks saves Tony by putting his body on the line. Tony immediately hits Dijak with a spear to take us to a break.

Dijak is in control after a DDT during the break. He has put Stacks in handcuffs. We return to see Tony in a headlock. Tony breaks free and hits big clotheslines before a spinebuster. Dijak blocks a suplex and hits some kicks. Tony blocks a chokeslam. Dijak hits a superkick and follows up with High Justice Chokeslam, but Tony kicks out of the pin.

Stacks calls Tony to get in his corner and gets into the ring. Stacks gets in between Dijak and Tony and asks his boss to finish Dijak. Tony tells him that he is not his boss but his family. Tony throws Stacks away and Dijak hits him with a running boot to get the pinfall.

Winner – Dijak

Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne are backstage talking about battle royal. They say Vengeance Day will actually be that for Toxic Attraction as they would beat Roxanne Perez to win the NXT Women’s Championship.


The Creed Brothers come out to the ring for the match. Sanga comes out alone and says Veer is not here but he will honor this match 2-on-1. The Creed Brothers scream about Veer not having respect. Jinder Mahal attacks them from behind. Sanga and Jinder beat up the Creed Brothers. Jinder slams Brutus on the steel steps with a chokeslam. Jinder says Sanga and Veer might fight for respect but he does not.


Backstage, Pretty Deadly were getting ready for their match. New Day come in and say their match is next as The Creed Brothers vs Inder Sher match was cancelled. Pretty Deadly run out of the locker room, still worried about their hair.


Sanga was telling Jinder Mahal(in hindi) that they have to do this once again to The Creed Brothers. Valentina Feroz comes in and asks him why he has attacked The Creed Brothers like that. Sanga says he is all about his brotherhood. Sanga leaves and Elektra Lopez comes in. Lopez tells Feroz that Sanga is all about himself now and she should also think in same manner.

Pretty Deadly Tag Team Gauntlet Match

Pretty Deadly come out to the ring. They talk about earning the tag team title shot with this match. So, they have brought in 3 best tag team from NXT to face in this Gauntlet match. The first team is an enhancement talent team called the Rockers.

Pretty Deadly vs The Rockers

Pretty Deadly slam one of the opponents to the corner before Prince slams him to the mat. Wilson tags in and they hit their double-team move to get the pinfall. The Rockers are eliminated.


New Day come out and says they knew Pretty Deadly would do something like this. So, they have brought in two of the best teams from NXT. The first team is Edris Enofe & Malik Blade.

Pretty Deadly vs Edris Enofe & Malik Blade

Enofe and Blade get a quick start and take us to a break as they are in control.

Enofe gets a hot tag as we return and drop both opponents with quick moves. Pretty Deadly work double team and hit a gutbuster on Enofe for a near fall. Prince sets up Enofe on the top for a superplex. Blade takes a blind tag and hits Prince with a splash from the top for a near fall. Blade and Enofe hit double team Death Valley Driver on Prince but Wilson breaks the pin. Enofe gets Prince in an inside cradle. Wilson pushes Prince over to change the inside cradle who gets the pinfall.


New Day now introduce the last tag team which is Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs. Their music hits but they do not come out. The camera cut to backstage and we see them on the floor after being attacked by someone. Gallus’ Mark Coffey and Wolfgang come out.

Pretty Deadly vs Gallus(Mark Coffey & Wolfgang)

Mark Coffey and Wolfgang take them to the floor and beat them up. Coffey starts against Wilson. Prince takes a bling tag but their move is blocked. Coffey hits a big boot to send Wilson to the floor. Gallus hits a roundhouse kick and powerslam combo on Prince to get the pinfall.

Winner – Gallus

Carmelo Hayes is somewhere in a restaurant and writes in his diary, mimicking Apollo Crews’ vision. Trick Williams is beside him in a lucha mask. Hayes says the mask is distracting him and he wants Apollo’s vision to be changed into his own.

The mystery woman behind New Year’s Countdown is revealed to be Tiffany Stratton. Stratton gets into the ring and says no one has taken up this business like her in the first nine months. She puts the roster on notice.


We get a video package for NXT Championship match.

Bron Breakker(c) vs Grayson Waller – NXT Championship

They lock up to start the match. Breakker pushes Waller away. Waller slaps him and runs out to lure Breakker. Breakker avoids an elbow drop when they were getting back in the ring. Breakker hits a suplex and a standing moonsault. Waller counters a powerslam with a DDT to come back in the match. Waller puts on a chinlock. Breakker gets to his feet and Waller hits him with knees.

Breakker tries to counter front chancery with a suplex but Waller brings him down again. Breakker hits a couple of back-body drops in quick succession. He follows up with a tilt-a-whirl slam. Waller reverses a whip to send Breakker crashing to the corner. The turnbuckle is broken and the ropes have gone loose. Breakker is selling a back injury as we cut to a break.

Waller has Breakker in a Boston crab as we return. The ropes are back in place. Breakker reaches the ropes to break the submission. They trade punches in the middle. Waller ducks a swing and hits a clothesline to the back of the head. Waller puts on Camel Clutch as he continues his mind games. Breakker gets on his feet and throws Waller away. Breakker hits shoulder tackles before a spinebuster.

Breakker goes to the top to hit a bulldog. Waller slips to the floor and drops Breakker’s face on the ropes. Waller runs from outside and into the ring to hit a running knee for a near fall. Waller tries to get to the ropes and but he slips as the middle rope breaks once again. Waller falls on his head on the apron and falls to the floor. The referee starts the countdown as Waller is down on the floor. Waller gets up at 8, and tries to pull himself in using the ropes, but the broken ropes does not help him.

Winner – Bron Breakker(via count-out)

Breakker is confused as he recovers in the ring. Waller is checked upon on the floor and is frustrated.


Roxanne Perez is interviewed backstage. She names Indi Hartwell, Zoey Stark, and Alba Fyre as the threats to win Battle Royal later tonight along with Toxic Attraction.

Charlie Dempsey vs Hunk Walker

Walker hits a shoulder breaker to star the match. Dempsey puts him on the ropes. Walker tackles Dempsey to the floor and they crashed on the apron on their way. Dempsey kicks Walker down to the floor when they return. Walker comes back and Dempsey hits more kicks. Dempsey hits a dragon screw leg. Walker pushes him away. Dempsey hits an uppercut and more punches. Walker puts Dempsey in an armbar in a quick change.

Dempsey tries to get to the ropes but Walker brings him back to the middle. Dempsey rolls over to break the submission. Dempsey puts on a step-over cross-face submission. Walker tries to get to the ropes but Dempsey rolls him over and takes him back to the middle. Walker taps out.

Winner – Charlie Dempsey

Sol Ruca was warming up when Alba Fyre comes in and talks about the match they never had. Fyre says she will see Ruca next week.

Jinder Mahal vs Julius Creed

Creed runs in and tackles Jinder before the bell rings. Mahal hits a boot from the corner and hits some blows to the back. Creed takes him down with a double leg and hits somes punches. Creed hits a clothesline to send him to the floor to take us to a break.

Creed jumps on the top ropes and hits a superplex as we return. Creed jabs at him in the corner. Jinder pushes him to the ropes and trips him with a low dropkick. Jinder boots him to the ropes before hitting a couple of knee drops. Jinder hits a few forearms. He cuts off a charge with a high knee. Jinder puts on a shoulder lock for a short while before breaking free.

Creed picks Jinder up and slams him to the mat. Creed goes to the top now. Sanga comes out to the apron and runs a distraction. The referee sends him back to the floor. Creed misses a Shooting Star Press before Jinder hits a running boot. Jinder hits Khallas to get the pinfall.

Winner – Jinder Mahal

20 Women Battle Royal

Cora Jade is eliminated from the match immediately after the bell by Valkyrie. Kiana James eliminates Lopez. Kiana saves Fallon Henley from elimination. Lash Legends eliminates another name. Toxic Attraction sends Sol Ruca to the floor but she uses her athleticism and does not allow her feet to touch the floor. She walks on her hands and gets back to the ring. Thea Hail eliminates Velantina Feroz. Indi Hartwell puts Lash to the apron and tackles her to eliminate her. Zoey Starks eliminates Dany Palmer. Cora Jade is thrown to the floor once again by Valkyrie as we cut to a break.

Toxic Attraction duo eliminate Indi Hartwell. Nikkita Lyons puts Elektra Lopez to the apron and kicks her to eliminate her. Zoey Stark throws Wendy Choo to the floor but she lands on her pillow. Lopez takes her pillow away to eliminate her. Nikkita is eliminated by Stark. Toxic Attraction eliminate Stark. Fyre sends Sol Ruca out to eliminate her.

Lyra Valkyrie, Alba Fyre, Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin are the last four. Valkyrie’s headscissors takes her and Fyre to the apron. Fyre goes for a German suplex but Valkyrie holds onto the ropes. They fight off Toxic Attraction. Valkyrie eliminates Fyre with a headscissors takedown. Cora Jade runs in and Valkyrie avoids her on the apron but Toxic Attraction knock her off.

Dolin and Jayne are the final two left as they wanted. The matches does not end though. Jayne offers to go out by herself and Gigi protests. Jayne comes back from the apron to nail Gigi with a superkick. Gigi is put on the apron but she hangs onto the ropes. Gigi tries to throw Jayne out who also hangs on. They both get to the second rope. They knock each other out and land on the floor at the same time.

Winners – Jacy Jayne & Gigi Dolin
