NOTES & STORYLINES

In October 2023, WWE announced that it would host its first PLE/PPV event in Germany, titled as Bash in Berlin on August 31, 2024.

World Heavyweight Championship: King of the Ring 2024 winner Gunther won the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam 2024 PLE by beating Damian Priest. On the following RAW episode, Randy Orton interrupted Gunther’s promo and announced that he would challenge for the title World title at Bash in Berlin.

Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes announced on SmackDown August 9 episode that he would defend the title against Kevin Owens at Bash in Berlin. Owens took offense to this, saying that he did not do anything to deserve the title shot. The duo later went to SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis who said he wanted to confirm with Roman Reigns before deciding on the title match. Owens then went berserk in front of Aldis on why he should not get the title shot. Aldis got convinced that Owens should actually the title shot.

Mixed Tag Team Match: SummerSlam event saw two Judgment Day members turning on their stablemates in title matches. Dominik Mysterio turned on Rhea Ripley to help Liv Morgan and beat Rhea for Liv to retain Women’s World Championship. Finn Balor turned on Damian Priest, which led to Priest losing the World Heavyweight Championship to Gunther. For the next weeks on RAW, Rhea and Priest worked together in an attempt to get their hands on Dominik, Balor and Liv, but they were able to escape any punishment. On RAW August 12 episode, it was announced that Liv and Dominik would face Rhea and Priest in a mixed tag team match at Bash in Berlin.

Strap Match: After months of rivalry, Drew McIntyre defeated CM Punk at SummerSlam 2024 in a singles match where Seth Rollins was the special guest referee. During the build-up of that match, McIntyre stole Punk’s bracelet that had his wife and dog’s names on it. During the match, Rollins tried to get it out of the way, but Punk attacked Rollins as he thought Rollins was sabotaging him. This ultimately cost Punk this match. McIntyre stole the bracelet once again after the match. On August 12 RAW episode, Punk attacked McIntyre and whipped him with a belt. The following week, Punk announced that Raw General Manager Adam Pearce had approved a Strap match at Bash in Berlin between him and McIntyre.

Women’s Tag Team Championship: The Unholy Union (Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn) defeated Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill, and Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. On August 2 SmackDown episode, Belair & Cargill defeated Fyre and Dawn by disqualification after interference from Blair Davenport, but the title did not change hands due to disqualification. On August 23, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis booked another rematch between these teams at Bash in Berlin.
