NJPW presented Wrestling Dontaku 2021 event on 3 May and 4 May and the event saw a big title change on night 1. Here are the highlights and complete results from the show:

Jay White Wins NEVER Openweight Championship

Jay White has won the NJPW’s NEVER Openweight title at Wrestling Dontaku 2021 Night 1. He defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi in the main event match for the night. Earlier, Tanahashi won the title in a fatal 4-way match at the New Beginning in Nagoya event defeating Shingo Takagi.

Will Ospreay Retains IWGP Title in a Marathon Run

Will Ospreay defended the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Shingo Takagi. The match lasted around 45 minutes and Ospreay was able to retain the title. Ospreay will now face Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Grand Slam Night 2 on 29 May 2021.

The complete results from night 1 of Wrestling Dontaku 2021 are as below:

  • EVIL, Yujiro Takahashi, Taiji Ishimori, and Dick Togo defeated Toru Yano, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Tiger Mask, and Master Wato
  • Kazuchika Okada, SHO, and YOH defeated Minoru Suzuki, El Desperado, and Yoshinobu Kanemaru
  • Shingo Takagi, Tetsuya Naito, SANADA, and BUSHI defeated Will Ospreay, Great-O-Khan, Jeff Cobb, and Aaron Henare
  • Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Tanga Loa
  • Taichi(w/ DOUKI) defeated Tama Tonga(w/ Jado) in Iron Fingers From Hell Ladder Match

  • Great-O-Khan, Jeff Cobb, and Aaron Henare defeated Tetsuya Naito, SANADA, and BUSHI
  • Hiroshi Tanahashi, Toru Yano, and Ryusuke Taguchi defeated Jay White, EVIL, and Dick Togo
