The finish for WrestleMania 35 Main Event match was botched

The finish to the main event triple threat match at WrestleMania 35 last night in which Becky Lynch pinned Ronda Rousey was reportedly botched and was not supposed to be a controversial finish, as per Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

As Rousey’s shoulder appeared to be up during the deciding pin left everyone wondering if finish was left in controversial manner to take the storyline ahead. However, Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that although WWE was not clear with the finish being a submission or pinfall on Ronda, at last, they indeed went with the pinfall.

“This is what I know, at one point the finish was going to be a submission finish and there were a lot of people who were for it and a lot of people who were against it. In the end, the idea was a pinfall and not a submission. I do know that a lot of people thought when it was submission that there was a lot of argument that it should not be a submission because Ronda Rousey shouldn’t submit because that’s too fake. So that was the feeling.”

The reasoning being Ronda did not submit to anyone during her MMA or Judo career and submitting in a pro-wrestling match would appear rather fake. Also, Ronda was not supposed to take her shoulders up and it was strange that WWE focused on the botch during the replays.

Meltzer also reported that Ronda worked with an injured arm which forced her to work with lesser intensity than originally planned.

“I have some news. Ronda has a broken hand. A severely broken hand. She was just diagnosed with it.”

So whether or not, Ronda was going to take time off WWE prior to the injury, this will be her last match in WWE for some time.
