SummerSlam 2019: AJ Styles Defeats Ricochet, Retains US Title
AJ Styles defeated Ricochet in another well-worked match at SummerSlam 2019 to retain the WWE United States Championship.
Ricochet, donning the Nightwing-styled wrestling gear, got the better start of the two, hitting a beautiful huricanrana on the outside. Styles took control and started working on Ricochet’s left leg. He went for the Styles Clash early, but Ricochet was able to counter it. Afterwards, the story of Ricochet’s leg giving out continued. Styles locked in the Calf Crusher to add to Ricochet’s pain.
The One and Only eventually escaped and locked in the Anaconda Vice, a submission that was not seen in WWE for a long time. He hit a Northern Lights Suplex, followed by a deadlift slam. But his leg once again gave up before he went for the cover. The OC got involved next and Ricochet had to take out Gallows and Anderson with a moonsault to the outside. During the final moments, Styles took the advantage of distraction from his buddies and countered a phoenix splash to the Styles clash to get the win.
This is the second time that AJ Styles has defeated Ricochet at a WWE PPV and got away with the United States Title. The first time was at Extreme Rules last month when Styles won the title from Ricochet. Ricochet himself won the title at Stomping Grounds from Samoa Joe in June this year.
