WWE SmackDown Live Results and Updates- 15 January 2019

WWE SmackDown episode of 15 January 2019 will be live from Legacy Arena, Birmingham, Alabama. As the Royal Rumble is just 2 weeks away, build-up for the PPV event will continue.

SmackDown started with Becky Lynch driving into the parking lot in an SUV and making her way to the ring. We saw Heavy Machinery and the New Day backstage with some pancakes and making a smoothie. Becky took a sip and called it a bit weak before making her way to the ring.

Becky calls out Asuka

Lynch came to the ring and started talking about facing Asuka at The Royal Rumble. She said that everyone on Raw and SmackDown is trying to be like her and mocked Asuka for losing to Charlotte at WrestleMania and falling off the radar. Asuka came out to interrupt Becky and told her she was all hype and no sting. The IIconics interrupted and told Asuka that her behaviour wasn’t becoming of a champion before telling Becky that she was behaving like a “typical man”. The IIconics then said they planned to win the women’s Royal Rumble before becoming the first women’s Tag-Team Champions.

Becky Lynch vs Peyton Royce

Becky Lynch challenged Royce to an impromptu match. However, Becky completely dominated the openings stages, and continued clubbing Royce with right hand as she tried to lock in the Dis-Arm-Her but Royce rolled outside. Becky hit her with a sliding dropkick before rolling her back into the ring. Royce took control as Becky followed her in and kept pressure for some time. Becky wrested back control with an Exploder Suplex before quickly locking in a Dis-Arm-Her for the win.

Winner- Becky Lynch by submission

Lacey Evans was shown watching the match from backstage for some reason.

Asuka vs Billie Kay

Asuka came into the ring after Lynch’s match was over and started shouting at her in Japanese. She then challenged Billie Key for a match to show she can do what Becky just did better. Key who was helping Royce to go backstage was dragged by Asuka in the ring and the referee started the match. Asuka immediately hit Kay with a hip attack before going for her version of a Dis-Arm-Her. Asuka then got the submission easily with the Asuka Lock.

More Drama

Becky got in the ring to stand toe to toe with Asuka. Before anything could happen, AJ Styles’ music hits and he heads down to the ring and made his way to the concession stands. Styles, with the crowd cheering, throwing t-shirts into a crowd of fans in the arena and mocking Bryan. Daniel Bryan attacked him out of nowhere but AJ hit him with a spinebuster through a table before officials dragged him away.

Mandy Rose was shown giving her hotel room keys to Jimmy Uso.

Andrade and Zelina Vega gave a backstage interview. Andrade said that Mysterio is a legend but last week he pinned him and he will beat him again today while Vega promoted Andrade to win Royal Rumble.

Samoa Joe vs Mustafa Ali

Samoa Joe was supposed to face Mustafa Ali next but he attacked Ali as he posed during his entrance. This one never had a chance to be a contest and had to be called off after Joe’s heinous attack. Joe laughed as he stood over Ali’s unconscious body before pretending to leave only to return and dish out more punishment.

As Rey Mysterio headed to the ring, Nikki Cross was shown in the cage shouting- “Play with me”.

Samoa Joe, in a backstage interview, said his attack on Ali is a warning to all the other superstars in Royal Rumble match.

Andrade vs. Rey Mysterio

Andrade showed some strength initially but they mostly went back and forth in the initial stage. Andrade hits a powerbomb on Rey outside the ring. Mysterio hit Andrade with a modified version of a Death Valley Driver before sending him face-first into the middle turnbuckle. Rey then headed to the top rope and hit Andrade with a hurricanrana from the apron and onto the floor. Andrade replied with a double moonsault, adjusting after Mysterio rolled away from the first one. Mysterio replied with a modified Canadian Destroyer for a near fall. Andrade countered the 619 but Mysterio turned it into a crucifix pin for another near fall. Mysterio headed to the top rope after a 619 to finish Mysterio off, Zelina Vega came onto the apron for the timely distraction. Andrade hit Mysterio with a Hammerlock DDT for one of the biggest wins of his career.

Jimmy Uso went to Mandy Rose’ Room but declined her advances. Naomi showed up and attacked Mandy. They brawled for a while before Mandy ran off.

Shane McMahon’s Birthday Party

The Miz has got the ring set up for a party Shane with gifts, cakes, balloons, and other celebratory things. Miz handed Shane a pair of Jordans as a gift and then went on to show Shane’s career highlight video. Shane seems happy. Shane said he has always wanted to be a tag team champion and he is proud to have The Miz as his partner. Miz started singing the Birthday song but was interrupted by The Bar. Shane booked a match between Sheamus and The Miz.

The Miz vs Sheamus

Miz had to wrestle in a suit. Sheamus was sent out of the ring early but he soon took control. Miz countered White Noise with a roll-up for two. He avoided Sheamus in the corner and hit a couple of running dropkicks. Sheamus hit a clothesline. Cesaro ended up being put through one of the cake tables by Shane while Miz rolled Sheamus up for the pin and the win.

Winner- The Miz by pinfall

Shane ended the show by hitting coast to coast with a cake on Sheamus’s face.
