Why NXT Stars Debut on RAW & WWE Using More Jobbers?

NXT Superstars Deonna Purrazzo made her debut on WWE RAW this week against Asuka while Chelsea Green would be debuting on next week’s episode against Charlotte Flair.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer commented that these appearances are not call-ups but the NXT stars were brought in to lose to Asuka and Charlotte. That may indeed be the case as the current RAW roster is certainly very short on female performers to work against the top talent in filler or squash matches.

My impression is that this is not a call-up that they just needed people to lose. You know just to give people wins. That’s just what it is.

The story is also consistent with Dave Meltzer’s comment on how Paul Heyman has brought back enhancement talent and squash matches to establish the talent. Meltzer said that this is one of the several ways that Heyman is trying to get people over with the crowd.

“The new thing, one of the things that Paul Heyman is trying to do is to get people wins. So they’re doing a lot more of these one and two-minute matches to get over these finishing moves and get people win.”

Paul Heyman was brought in as the Executive Director of WWE RAW back in June. After a couple of months in his current position, we got to see more and more stars squashing the enhancement talents. The Viking Raiders have been in squash matches mostly after September. Similarly, Erick Rowan has defeated some local talent for last 3 or 4 weeks now.

In between, Aleister Black, Buddy Murphy, and Drew McIntyre, all have defeated local talents or the other low-card members of WWE roster in squash matches.
