STORYLINES

After Sanada made his first defense of IWGP World title against Hiromu Takahashi at Wrestling Dontaku, Yota Tsuji attacked and speared Sanada and held the title in the air to signal a future world title match. The match was later made official during a press conference for Dominion 6.4. Tsuji joined Los Ingobernables de Japon just a day before this title match which is Sanada’s previous stable.

NJPW announced a mini tournament to crown a #1 contender for IWGP US title. Lance Archer defeated Fred Rosser in the first semifinal while Will Ospreay beat Hiroshi Tanahashi in the second semifinal. Archer and Ospreay then clash in the final at Dominion 6.4.

A 3-way tag team match was announced for IWGP World Tag Team Championship for the show between Aussie Open, Bishamon and House of Torture. Mark Davis got injured in May, leading to Aussie Open vacating IWGP Tag Team and NJPW Strong Tag Team titles, and it was announced that Bishamon and House of Torture would fight for both these titles. Later, United Empire’s Great-O-Khan & Aaron Henare were added to the match.

After some growing tensions in Bullet Club, El Phantasmo was booted out of the stable at Sakura Genesis by being attacked by leader David Finlay, Kenta and Gedo. David Finlay won NEVER Openweight title from Tama Tonga at Wrestling Dontaku. Later, El Phantasmo was given the first title shot against Finlay.

Master Wato won Best of Super Junior 30 tournament by beating Titan in the final match. The tournament win earned him a title shot at NJPW Junior Heavyweight Championship against Hiroumu Takahashi.

Shota Umino teamed up with Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta at NJPW Resurgence event to beat Chaos’ Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii and Rocky Romero. Umino’s team once again defeated CHAOS and Hiroshi Tanahashi at the final event of Best of Super Junior. After this win, Umino announced that he would team up with Moxley ad Claudio Castagnoli to challenge for NEVER 6-Man Tag Team Championship.

Intergalactic Jet-Setters pulled off an upset as they defeated Catch2/2 on the Road to Dontaku in April win Junior Heavyweight tag titles. Catch 2/2’s run as the champions was the second longest in the title’s history. Catch 2/2 will now get another chance at Dominion to win those titles back.
