WWE unveiled the new WWE Women’s Championship and presented it to Asuka on SmackDown episode of June 9, 2023.
It was announced earlier on Friday that a new WWE Women’s Championship title will be awarded to Asuka. Asuka was the WWE RAW Women’s Champion but she was drafted to SmackDown brand. To rectify this issue, WWE has decided to rename the women’s titles, as reported several times before this year.
Adam Pearce was out in the ring and brought out Asuka and handed her the new WWE Women’s Championship belt. The belt is very similar to Undisputed WWE Universal Championship belt that was awarded to Roman Reigns last week, with the white strap replacing the black one in Universal title.
As soon as Asuka was handed the title, Charlotte Flair made her return to SmackDown. She has been away since she lost SmackDown Women’s title to Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 39. Flair was quick to challenge Asuka for the new title, which Asuka promptly accepted.
Prior to this segment, Bianca Belair was in Adam Pearce’s office where Pearce assured her that she was in line for a rematch against Asuka for the title. Asuka defeated Bianca at Night of Champions to win the title. After the segment between Asuka and Flair, Bianca was once again with Pearce who assured her that he would sort out the situation.
The commentary team later announced that Asuka vs Charlotte Flair match for WWE Women’s Championship will take place on June 30, 2023 episode of SmackDown, which will air from London, UK.
