This is the live blog for Malakai Black vs Cody Rhodes match for AEW Dynamite Homecoming 2021 episode on 4 August 2021.
Malakai Black debut in AEW at Dynamite Road Rager special. His first act was attacking Arn Anderson and then Cody Rhodes as Cody came out to save Anderson. Since then, Cody and Black have been involved in several promos against each other and several brawls, setting up this match at AEW Homecoming.

Malakai Black vs Cody Rhodes
Malakai Black makes his entrance which is mostly themed with lights off and an occasional spotlight on Black. Black is also donning a mask that resembles a warlord. Black sits in the ring and sends us to a break.
Cody Rhodes comes out after the break. The bell rings and the crowd goes nuts. Both wrestlers look around the crowd before Cody charges at Black. Black thwarts the attack. They circle the ring. Black hits a kick at the knee. Cody charges again and Black hits another kick. Black brings Cody down and goes for a kneebar. Cody tries to counter the lock but fails. Black trips Cody to the floor with a low sweep kick. Black puts on a single-leg crab and Cody had to reach the ropes to break it.
Black counters the crossroads with an overhead kick. Cody goes to the top. Black kicks him to send him into the tables set up at the ringside. Cody somehow makes it back into the ring but he is hobbling and selling his left leg. Black hits the Black Mass kick and puts one leg of Cody’s chest for the pin.
Winner – Malakai Black
After the bell, Black looks around in the crowd before leaving the ring and to the back. Cody recovers in the ring. The staff is checking on him. Tony Schiavone gets into the ring for an interview. Tony asks Cody if he is okay. Cody thanks Tony for his help. He starts a promo talking about AEW. Cody says legacy is a funny thing and when he got into wrestling he was a referee and the goal was to win back the title that his dad lost. Cody gets up on his feet.
Cody recalls leaving WWE and meeting The Young Bucks. People laughed at them when they said they are starting a revolution. For three years his face has been on everything. Some outside interests also came his way. Some infighting also happened with the EVPs, but he loves those guys very deeply and he’ll forever be tethered to them. Cody terms Daily’s Place as the AEW amphitheater, and there is no better place than here. Cody thanks the fans for their support.
Cody then goes to take one his wrestling boots off in the middle of the ring, teasing retirement. He was going to take off the other one when Black smacks him on the back. The crutch was brought in for Cody earlier. Black picks up Cody’s boot and smiles at the crowd. The commentary team asks if Black has retired Cody as the show closes.
