The pair met in the main event of NJPW Dominion 6.12 where White took the upper hand for a large period of the match after some distraction from Gado on the floor. White kept hurting Okada’s back and ribs for the next few minutes. Okada made a comeback with a big boot to start back and forth match.

Okada had put on Money Clip when Gado grabbed the referee’s leg, leading to a referee bump. Gado threw in a steel chair for White, but Okada did not let him use it. The match once again went back and forth until Okada hit him with a piledriver and rainmaker. White countered the rainmaker to hit the Bladerunner to get the pin.

Jay White is the fifth champion in the new IWGP World Heavyweight Championship lineage. This match also ended Okada’s five months title reign which started at night 1 of Wrestle Kingdom 16 when Okada defeated Shingo Takagi.

This is White’s fourth win against Okada in five singles matches. Okada’s only win over White came at G1 Supercard in 2019 at Maddison Square Garden. White has defeated Okada twice in G1 Climax and once at Wrestle Kingdom 13.

After his win. White told Hangman Adam Page that he will not be getting his shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight title at Forbidden Door PPV. It remains to be seen who White will be facing at Forbidden Door after all.
