Io Shirai to Become Free Agent, Contract Expires Next Month

According to the latest reports, Io Shirai will become a free agent very soon as her WWE contract will expire next month. 

On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that the former NXT women’s champion’s contract would end next month and she hasn’t signed a new deal yet. 

Dave Meltzer also stated that she had told some people that when her deal expired, she would return to Japan in order to be closer to her family. 

Io Shirani inked the WWE contract back in 2018. She had some great matches in WWE NXT and went on to become the NXT women’s champion and NXT women’s tag-team champion. 

Earlier this year, she also worked in some dark matches before WWE SmackDown. Shirai suffered an injury and hasn’t wrestled since April this year. Last week, Meltzer reported that Shirai is expected to return inside the squared circle ‘relatively soon.’
