Ilja Dragunov will defend his NXT Championship against Baron Corbin at NXT Deadline 2023 event.

Baron Corbin had his attention on Ilja Dragunov since NXT No Mercy event. Following Dragunov’s successful retention of the championship against Carmelo Hayes on WWE NXT Halloween Havoc night two event, Corbin attacked him.

In the main event of November 14 episode of NXT, Baron Corbin secured a victory over Wes Lee with the assistance of Dominik Mysterio. After the match concluded, Corbin continued his assault on Lee. Ilja Dragunov rushed in to aid Lee, but Corbin ultimately executed his finishing move, the End of Days, on Dragunov.

After Corbin was leaving, Dragunov intercepted by grabbing a microphone and publicly acknowledging his significant mistake. He then declared that Corbin would, without a doubt, receive an opportunity to challenge for the NXT Championship. Dragunov officially confirmed their showdown would occur at NXT Deadline on December 9.

This marks the second occasion Corbin will receive an opportunity to compete for the NXT title. His first chance occurred at the NXT Gold Rush Night Two event, where he was defeated by Carmelo Hayes.

NXT Deadline 2023 will take place on December 9 at Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, CT. This is the first match announced for the event.
