CM Punk Suspended from AEW, Out for Months Due to Torn Biceps

CM Punk at AEW Rampage Debut

CM Punk is one of several names suspended for the backstage altercation, but he might be facing a longer time out of AEW due to an injury.

Apart from Punk, AEW EVPs Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson, Michael Nakazawa, Christopher Daniels, Pat Buck, Brandon Cutler and Ace Steel have been suspended for their roles in the backstage fight after media scrum at All Out 2022 PPV.

Apart from the suspensions, CM Punk was stripped of his AEW World Championship while The Elites were also stripped of Trios Championship. Death Triangle became the new Trios Champion on Dynamite this week while a new World Champion will be crowned through a Tournament of World Champions at Grand Slam later this month.

In an update on CM Punk, Bryan Alvarez reported on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that CM Punk has suffered an injury. Dave Meltzer confirmed on the podcast that it is either a torn bicep or tricep. Meltzer added that Punk may have already got the surgery done and will be out of action for 6 to 8 months even if his suspension is lifted anytime soon.

This is the second major injury that Punk has suffered in World title matches. He earlier suffered a broken foot at AEW Double or Nothing, leading to being sidelined for more than two months after surgery. Meltzer also said that a lot of people in AEW do not want Punk back in the promotion.

“Punk is out for 8 months, or whatever it’s going to be, 6 months, 8 months, whatever. If he is not let go, and a lot of people don’t want him back.”

Dave Meltzer on CM Punk’s Status with AEW

AEW has launched a third-party investigation to gather details on the backstage fight. Several different versions of the story related to fight are going around. AEW has not officially commented on the issues yet. The Elites and CM Punk were removed from the Dynamite intro video before AEW President Tony Khan’s announcement about titles becoming vacant.
