Christian Cage became the new number 1 contender for the AEW world championship following his win at AEW Dynamite: Homecoming episode.

On this week’s AEW Dynamite, Christian Cage defeated The Blade in a singles match. This keeps his singles matches undefeated streak going in AEW.

Later in the show, Christain was interviewed backstage where Tony Schiavone revealed to him that he is now the new #1 contender as per Tony Khan. Christian Cage was pleased after hearing this news. He also added that he came to AEW not just to take peaks and peeps, but to win championships.

The pro-wrestling veteran also said that he will be at AEW Dynamite and AEW Rampage next week. It is expected that Christian would address AEW World Champion Kenny Omega to set up a future title match.

Initially, it was expected that Hangman Adam Page would challenge Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship at All Out 2021 in September. However, he no longer seems to be in the championship equation anymore and now Christian Cage will likely replace him for the  PPV.

Christian Cage made his return to wrestling earlier this year at WWE Royal Rumble after seven years of absence. However, he was reportedly set to sign a contract with WWE at that point in time. However, he appeared at AEW Revolution in March.

Since then, the former WWE and TNA World Champion has maintained a winning streak in singles matches even after five months of his AEW debut.

Keep tuned in for more news and updates from AEW.
