The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Butch, and Ridge Holland) finally get the upper hand on Imperium (Gunther, Giovanni Vinci, and Ludwig Kaiser) as they defeated the latter to kick-off Extreme Rules 2022 PPV event.

Both Sheamus and Gunther are famous for their hard-hitting wrestling styles and that’s what they did with the help of their teams in a good old-fashioned Donnybrook match.

The match was as extreme and brutal as it possibly could be. The first half of the match was dominated by Imperium as Gunther hits a side slam on Sheamus through the table.

However, the Brutes found their way back into the match and even used shillelagh to dominate Imperium. In the ending moments, Sheamus hit a Celtic Cross to Gunther through the table and then hit Giovanni Vinci with Brogue Kick in the ring to get the pinfall.

At Clash at the Castle, Gunther defeated Sheamus in a hard-hitting match and retained the Intercontinental title. After a week, Imperium even defeated The Brawling Brutes in a six-man tag-team match.

However, the following weeks on SmackDown, Imperium distracted Brawling Brutes and cost them the undisputed tag-team title match against The Usos.

On the September 29 episode of SmackDown, it was announced that The Brawling Brutes would face Imperium in a Good Old-Fashioned Donnybrook match at WWE Extreme Rules.
