AEW Signs Aussie Open’s Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher
AEW has officially signed Aussie Open’s Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher, AEW President Tony Khan announced this on Twitter.
At May 24, 2023, AEW Dynamite episode, Kyle Fletcher lost to Orange Cassidy in a match for AEW International Championship. After the match, Tony Khan posted on Twitter that “Aussie Open is ALL ELITE!”
Fightful Select reported that WWE had also shown up interest in having Aussie Open on their roster, but AEW were confident to sign them. This is partially due to WWE’s continued hiring freeze in 2023. Also, Aussie Open has had several appearances in AEW and several tag teams have tried to bring them into AEW fold.
They're one of the top tag teams in the world, and now it's official:

The report also mentioned when Davis was going through the meniscus surgery, Tony Khan helped him and paid for the surgery even with the team not under AEW contract. Due to Davis’s injury, Aussie Open had to relinquish IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships and NJPW Strong Openweight Tag Team Championships.
Aussie Open were one of the hottest tag team in the last one year. They came close to winning NJPW World Tag League 2022 but fell short in the final. They have won the IWGP Tag Team Championship once and NJPW Strong Tag Team Championship 2 times.
The team already had made several appearances in AEW when they were signed to an NJPW contract. Earlier this year, they announced that they were working with NJPW without any contract.
