AEW Revolution 2023 PPV

AEW Revolution 2023 was AEW’s first PPV Event of 2023. It was also the fourth event in Revolution series. The event took place on March 5, 2023, at Chase Center in San Francisco, CA.

A one-hour Ironman match for AEW World Championship between MJF and Bryan Danielson headlined the show. Check below for the complete details on AEW Revolution 2023 PPV.

  • Revolution 2023 was announced by Tony Khan on November 20, 2023, during post-show media scrum of Full Gear 2022.
  • This is the fourth event in the Revolution series.
  • This is the first AEW PPV to take place in San Francisco.
  • The tickets for Revolution 2023 went on sale on December 9, 2022. As of February 15, 2023, 6869 out of 9826 tickets were sold.

As Mark Briscoe started his AEW journey, Mark Sterling offered him his services as a manager. Briscoe declined the offer, which enraged Sterling into calling him stupid. Josh Woods got in between to confront Briscoe before he could attack Sterling. Briscoe later defeated Woods in a match at February 15 edition on Dynamite. On March 2 episode of Rampage, Lucha Bros joined Mark Briscoe to challenge Varsity Athletes & Ari Daivari for a trios match at Revolution.

Chris Jericho vs Ricky Starks

On December 21, 2022 episode of Dynamite, Chris Jericho offered Ricky Starks to join Jericho Appreciation Society. Starks turned him down and later defeated him in a singles match. Later, Jericho and Sammy defeated Starks and Action Andretti in a tag team match after Jericho used a baseball bat. An enraged Starks asked Jericho for a singles rematch, but Jericho did not agree. Ricky Starks then tried to run through a Garcia-Guevara Gauntlet to earn a rematch against Jericho, but Jericho interfered to cost Starks the match.

On February 22, 2023 episode of Dynamite, Starks said he was letting go off a rematch against Jericho and would instead call for an open challenge at Revolution. Jericho then came out for a promo with him and claimed he could beat him easily. Jericho also stopped Peter Avalon from answering to Starks’ challenge. Jericho then accepted the challenge himself. Starks enticed him into adding the stipulation that JAS would not interfere in their match.

Jungle Boy Jack Perry vs Christian Cage – Final Burial Match

The storyline between Jungle Boy and Christian Cage goes as far back as June 2022. At Road Rager 2022 special, Christian turned on Jungle Boy after JB and Luchasaurus lost AEW Tag Team Championship to Young Bucks in a ladder match. Christian’s mind games led to Luchasaurus doing his bidding in the aftermath. Jungle Boy, now going by his original name Jack Perry, returned to attack Christian a few weeks later. They faced off at All Out 2022 where Luchasaurus turned on Perry and helped Christian beat Perry.

As the rivalry continued, Luchasaurus defeated Perry in a singles match at AEW Dynamite on October 12, 2022. In a steel cage rematch at Full Gear 2022, Perry got the win back against defeated Luchasaurus. Christian went off TV due to an injury and returned on February 15, 2023 Dynamite episode to attack Perry. Perry retaliated against him the following week, but Christian hit him with a low blow, and later with a con-chair-to. On the go-home episode of Dynamite before Revolution 2023, Perry appeared in a video on the big screen to indicate that he would bury Christian. The next day, AEW confirmed a No Holds Barred match between them for Revolution 2023 event. The match was later changed to a buried alive match.

The Elite(Kenny Omega, Nick Jackson & Matt Jackson)(c) vs House of Black(Malakai Black, Buddy Mathews & Brody King) – AEW Trios World World Championship

The Elite won back the AEW Trios Championship from Death Triangle in a best-of-7 series. House of Black returned to the promotion after Full Gear and started making their moves. After The Elite’s win over Top Flight and AR Fox on Rampage episode of February 17, House of Black appeared on the stage briefly before disappearing again. The same thing happened on February 24 episode of Rampage when House of Black surrounded the ring briefly after The Young Bucks defeated Aussie Open before disappearing once again. AEW later announced that House of Black would challenge The Elite for the trios titles.

Jamie Hayter(c) vs Saraya vs Ruby Soho – Triple Threat Match for AEW Women’s World Championship

Saraya started a rivalry with Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter ever since she arrived to AEW. Hayter won AEW Women’s Championship from Toni Storm at AEW Full Gear 2022 event. The rivalry between AEW Originals- Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter, and Outsiders – Saraya & Toni Storm continued after this. Ruby Soho was called upon Baker to choose her side, but Soho refused to get involved into this. Soho defeated Baker and Storm in a triple threat match on February 15 Dynamite episode. On February 22, Hayter announced that at Revolution, she would defend her title in a triple threat match against Saraya and Ruby.

Jon Moxley vs “Hangman” Adam Page – Texas Deathmatch

Moxley gave Page a concussion during their AEW World title match on October 18, 2022. Page spent some time on the sidelines before he returned and defeated Moxley in their second match on January 11, 2023 Dynamite. Their third match on February 1 Dynamite saw Moxley sneaking away with a win with a roll-up. Page was unhappy with this result and kept calling out Moxley for another match, but Moxley did not pay attention. They came face to face in the ring on Dynamite February 17 episode where Moxley asked for another match at Revolution. Moxley taunted Page by saying he had no friends to talk him out of this match. When Dark Order came out and enraged Moxley, he announced that their match at Revolution would be a Texas Deathmatch.

Samoa Joe(c) vs Wardlow – AEW TNT Championship

Samoa Joe held ROH TV title and Wardlow held AEW TNT title and were feuding with Jay Lethal and Powerhouse Hobbs in October 2022. Despite being tag team partner, Joe was miffed with Wardlow for saying that he would take every other company’s titles also. Joe nails Wardlow from behind as he turned. Joe defeated Wardlow and Powerhouse Hobbs at Full Gear 2022 in a triple-threat match to win TNT Championship. Joe also defeated Wardlow on Dynamite December 28 episode. After that match, Joe also cut Wardlow’s hair.

Joe lost the TNT title to Darby Allin on January 5 Dynamite episode and later won it back from him on February 1 Dynamite. Wardlow then confronted him again as he returned to Dynamite after 5 weeks. On February 15 episode of Dynamite, Wardlow explained how he lost his father to cancer and decided to grow his hair and beard in his memory. Wardlow said since Joe has cut away his hair, Joe would not survive now. Later on the show, AEW announced a rematch between Wardlow and Joe for TNT title at Revolution 2023.

The Gunn Club(Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn)(c) vs The Acclaimed(Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) vs Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal vs Orange Cassidy & Danhausen – 4-way Tag Team Match for AEW World Tag Team Championship

AEW announced that a three-way tag team match for AEW Tag Team Championship which would also be the first title defense for The Gunn Club. A Battle Royal on Dynamite February 22 would determine the first challenger, while a Casino Battle Royal on Dynamite March 1 would determine the second challenger. The Acclaimed then announced that they are invoking their rematch clause to make it a 4-way match. Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal won the Battle Royal to get into the match while Orange Cassidy & Danhausen won the Casino Battle Royal to complete the line-up.

MJF(c) vs Bryan Danielson – 60 Minutes Ironman Match for AEW World Championship

MJF defeated Jon Moxley for AEW World Championship at Full Gear 2022 event. William Regal, coach and manager of Blackpool Combat Club(BCC), helped MJF by handing him brass knuckles to defeat Moxley. BCC also had Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta. Two weeks later, MJF hit Regal to drop him unconscious. Despite Regal turning on BCC, Bryan came out to check on Regal as he was stretchered out and was quite disturbed with Regal’s condition.

Two weeks later, Bryan challenged MJF to defend AEW World Championship against him. MJF said that Bryan would have to become the #1 contender for the title and for that, he would have to win a match every week on Dynamite until February 8 episode. Bryan agreed to this condition but said that MJF would have to agree to 60 minutes Ironman match stipulation for their match. MJF reluctantly agreed to this. Bryan defeated Tony Nese, Bandido, Konosuke Takeshita, Brian Cage, Timothy Thatcher and Rush on consecutive weeks on Dynamite to become the #1 contender for AEW World title.
