Welcome to the live results blog for AEW Dynamite New Year’s Smash 2021 episode on December 29, 2021, as AEW returns to Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, FL.
Two trios matches are announced for the show till now. Eddie Kingston will team up with Santana & Ortiz to take on Daniel Garcia & 2Point0. Orange Cassidy & Best Friends will face The Undisputed – Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish. Jade Cargill vs Thunder Rosa TBS Championship Tournament semifinal is also on the card.
Additionally, it is expected that Adam Page and Bryan Danielson will engage in another promo war before their title match next week on Dynamite. Jim Ross returns to the commentary in his hometown amid his battle with cancer.

Results
- Cash Wheeler, Dash Harwood, Matt Hardy, Isiah Kassidy and Mark Quen defeated Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, Pentagon Jr., Rey Fenix and Christian in a tag team match via pinfall.
- Daniel Garcia, Matt Lee & Chase Parker defeated Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz in a tag team match via pinfall.
- Wardlow defeated Colin Delaney in a singles match via pinfall.
- Jade Cargill defeated Thunder Rosa in a TBS Championship Tournament Semifinal Match via pinfall.
- Adam Cole, Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly defeated Orange Cassidy, Trent & Chuck in a tag team match via pinfall.
Cash Wheeler, Dash Harwood, Matt Hardy, Isiah Kassidy & Mark Quen vs Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, Pentagon Jr., Rey Fenix & Christian
Wheeler and Christian start with a show of strength. Wheeler takes down Christian from the waist. Christian hits a back body drop and looks for an early Kill Switch. Wheeler stops it and Christian unloads on him in the corner. Dash and Jungle Boy come in. They trade chops in the corner. Dash drops JB with a shoulder tackle. JB comes back with back elbow and a dropkick.
Christian back in the ring and controls Dash. JB puts on snear trap but Cash hits a dropkick to break it. Lucha Bros tag in and so does Isiah Kassidy. JB fights off Private Party before Quen hits him with a headscissor to send him into a side effect from Matt Hardy. JB is beaten down in opponents corner as we cut to a break.
JB comes back with a lariat. Penta hits FTR with Slingblades. Lucha Bros work on FTR. Fenix hits Quen with a senton for a two-count. Private Party take control over Rey. Rey fights back against Dash and hits a moonsault on the floor. Luchasuarus clears the house as he drops each opponent one by one. Luchasaurus hits a chokeslam on Harwood. Penta gets the blind tag.
The match breaks down as everyone starts to get involved with big moves. Christian takes a blind tag from Penta and this starts an argument between them. FTR push them into each other and they hit Big Rig on Christian for the win.

Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz vs Daniel Garcia, Matt Lee & Chase Parker
Eddie takes control against Lee to start. A brawl breaks on the floor. Lee attacks Eddie from behind and 2Point0 takes control briefly. Ortiz tags in and pushes the pace. A kick to the midsection from 2Point0 drops him. Ortiz hits a dropkick and Santana comes in to work together. Daniel Garcia tags in and gets dropped with an elbow in the corner. We cut to a break.
Garcia is in control as we return. Ortiz hits a dropkick and tags in Eddie. Eddie hits quick moves and hits corner splash on 2Point0. Machine Gun chops on Garcia. Santana and Ortiz work on Lee. Lee gets his knees up on a moonsault by Santana and rolls him up for a pin using the trunks.
After the match, Garcia and 2Point0 beat up the fallen opponents. That is until Chris Jericho runs out with a baseball bat to make the save. Santana is down and Eddie and Ortiz check on him. Eddie asks for Jericho’s music to cut off. Eddie is not happy that Jericho is there. Jericho go face to face with him and Ortiz has to keep them apart.
Winner – Daniel Garcia, Matt Lee & Chase Parker
MJF is backstage with Shawn Spears and Wardlow. Wardlow is just sitting there sulking. MJF talks about unsafe working conditions as he was thrown out of the ring by an “untrained” Sting. MJF says these kind of things would not happed in a more professional company. He talks about bidding war of 2024 when his contract will be done. He then says he is done with CM Punk now and has his eye on the gold.
He tells Wardlow to stop the powerbomb symphony and focus on winning the Face of Revolution Ladder match to become the #1 contender for TNT title. And then hand that contract to MJF. Wardlow is confused and MJF revealed that it is written in his contract. Mark Sterling comes in and read Pinnacle’s contract where MJF is getting a lot of things. MJF then says he will start getting wins from next week and will then go after AEW World title.
Tony Schiavone is backstage with the Lucha Brothers. Christian Cage, Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus appear and accuses Lucha Bros of getting into the match earlie for themselves. Christian says next week it’s time for Jurassic Express vs Lucha Bros title match. Alex Abrahantes fires back from Lucha Bros’ side and accepts the challenge.
Wardlow(w/Shawn Spears) vs Colin Delaney
Wardlow starts with a back elbow and a clothesline. He hits a powerbomb and then repeats it a few more time when asked by the crowd. He gets a pin easily.
Winner – Wardlow
Adam Cole, The young Bucks, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly are backstage. Adam Cole says they all will be the best group ever. The Young Bucks are not happy with KOR and he hasn’t even said hello to them. KOR says he has to talk to Cole alone. Others leave and KOR tells Cole that they have heat together, but Cole can show him that he has his back.
Dan Lambert is in the ring with Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky. He takes shots on Cody Rhodes and Nightmare Family. He says seeing Arn Anderson with Cody actually makes him sad, as he has turned from a Horseman to Cody’s sidekick. Ethan Page mocks Brandi for being a ‘wrestler.’ Brandi comes out and takes shots at them. She calls Lambert a less talented version of Paul Heyman. He replies saying he prefers Jim Cornette.
Brandi asks him when was the last time he got beaten by a woman for free. Lambert says he has black belt in Ji-Jitsu. Brande says she is a black bi**h and wants to go at it right away. Dustin Rhodes then comes out to calm things down, but Scorpio Sky attacks him from behind as they were walking out.
A video package for AEW World title match for next week between Adam Page and Bryan Danielson. Jim ross, Tony Schiavone and others chime in with their thoughts on the match next week.
Jade Cargill vs Thunder Rosa – TBS Championship Tournament Semifinal Match
Rosa starts with a dropkick to the knee. Cargill goes to the floor. Mark Sterling gets in between the two opponents and giving Cargill the chance to take shots on Rosa from behind. Back and forth on the floor. Cargill goes for the jaded on the floor but has to contend with a backbreaker. Rosa hits a crossbody and then work on her leg.
Jade slams her into the barricade. Rosa goes to send him into the ring post but Jade reverses it. Cargill finally brings the action into the ring, but keeps selling a leg injury. Cargill goes for a flying back elbow in the corner but Rosa gets away and hits a dragon screw leg on the ropes. Jade drops her with a big kick as we cut to a break.
Rosa keeps kicking at the knee after ducking Jade’s swings. She keeps working on the knee despite Jade giving her very less. Jade goes for a vertical suplex but Rosa counters with crossbody. Rosa unloads on the knee in the corner. She hits a running dropkick on the knee a couple of times. Jade hits a Samoan drop out of nowhere. Jade puts on the torture rack but her knee gives up.
Rosa hits a kneebreaker. She puts on figure four. Cargill drags herself to the ropes. Sterling gives her some water. The referee gets distracted by this. Cargill kicks at Rosa to send her to the turnbuckle. A masked woman takes a cheat shot at her. Jade hits the jaded to get the pin.
Winner – Jade Cargill
After the match, Rosa attacks Cargill. The masked woman runs into the ring and beats up Rosa. It turns out to be Mercedes Martinez.
CM Punk comes out to the ring. He gives props to Jim Ross and then talks about Brodie Lee for a while. He moves onto MJF and says he is a Twitter troll in flesh. He brings up how MJF was running away from him. He understand if MJF is afraid of him. He is also getting to bigger and better things. He wants to be a champion too. With Dynamite moving to TBS, CM Punk is also moving towards Championship. He tells MJF that he is a waste of his time. He never wanted to get involved with MJF and MJF might have found out that there is no one better than him in the ring, on the mic and even on the commentary.
Ricky Starks is with Powerhouse Hobbs and fires a warning for Dante Martin. He says how things have not gone well for him since joining Lio Rush.
Sammy Guevara comes out on the stage with his placards where he talks about his time as TNT Champion. He then says he has a resolution for 2022 to beat Cody Rhodes and become TNT Champion again.
Hikaru Shida talks about Serena Deeb and tells her to stop whining. They will have another rematch.
Brian Pillman Jr. is in the ring with a mic. He calls out Malakai Black and challenges him for a match next week. The lights go off and Black appears on the ramp. The lights go off once again and Black is gone when they come back.
Adam Cole, Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly vs Orange Cassidy, Trent & Chuck
KOR starts with Chuck. Chuck hits a shoulder tackle. KOR drops him with a kick. Trent comes in and trade strikes with KOR. Both men drop each other with big boot at the same time. Fish and Orange Cassidy tag in. Cassidy hits his lazy kicks and rolls Fish up for a two-count. Fish hits inside kicks but misses a senton. Cole drops Cassidy with a cheap shot. Cassidy avoids Cole’s charge in the corner. He tags in Best Friends who double team on Cole.
Fish and KOR come in but they also gets dropped. Best Friends were going for their hug but their opponents attack them. Chuck fights off everyone from the apron. KOR hits a dragon screw leg on the ropes and Fish sweeps him on the apron. Cole is posing as we cut to a break.
Chuck whips KOR into the barricade. Cole hits a backbreaker as Chuck returns to the ring. Cole is dumped to the floor. Trent tags in and hits half suplex. KOR gets dropped with a suplex. Trent hits a big DDT for a two-count. Cole take a cheap shot on Trent. Fish tags in and slams him to the corner. KOR and Fish work double team on Trent.
Trent tags out to Cassidy, who hits KOR with a crossbody and Fish with a suicide dive. OC hits Cole with stundog millionare. KOR and Cole work together and KOR hits a big German suplex for a two-count. Chuck breaks the pin after high-low on Cassidy. Trent sends Fish to the floor. Fish drops him to the ropes. Chuck hits Fish with a thrust kick. Cole hits a knee to Chuck. Chuck counters Panama Sunrise with a back body drop. Chuck hits KOR with a dive. Trent hits Cole with a spear. Cassidy hits Cole with a diving DDT for a near fall.
Trent hits a piledriver on Cole and OC hits Beach Break. KOR and Fish breaks the pin. KOR tags in and kicks at OC. KOR ends up taking out Cole with a knee on the apron. Everyone starts to get involved with big moves. Brandon Cutler runs out with the spray. The referee gets distarcted and Young Bucks comes in to hit superkick on Trent. Fish and KOR hits suplex and superkick combo on Trent to get the pin.
Winners – Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish
Tension between Cole and KOR as Cole is not happy with that knee strike from KOR. The Young Bucks are with Cole. The show comes to an end as Cole and Bucks leave.
