Welcome to the live results blog for AEW Dynamite Holiday Bash Special on December 21, 2022, from Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, TX.

AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter is set for her first title defense against Hikaru Shida. IWGP & AAA Tag Team Champions FTR will take up The Gunn Club as their opponents. Death Triangle and The Elite will square off in a No Disqualification match in match 5 of Best of 7 series.

Additionally, we will get promos from Bryan Danielson and Ricky Starks. Keith Lee and Shane “Swerve” Strickland will come face-to-face with Rick Ross being their mediator. We will also get the next chapter from the Book of Hobbs.

RESULTS

  • The Elite(Kenny Omega, Nick Jackson & Matt Jackson) defeated Death Triangle(PAC, Rey Fenix & Penta El Zero Meido) in a No Disqualification Tag Team Match(5 of Best of 7 Series) via pinfall.
  • Hook defeated Exodus Prime in a singles match via pinfall.
  • Jon Moxley defeated Darius Martin in a singles match via pinfall.
  • The Gunn Club(Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn) defeated FTR(Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) in a tag team match via pinfall.
  • Jamie Hayter(c) defeated Hikaru Shida in a singles match via pinfall to retain AEW Women’s Championship.

What’s Next for Ricky Starks?

We get a recap of how MJF used a low blow to defeat Ricky Starks last week and how he was chased down by Bryan Danielson. Ricky Starks comes out to open the show. Starks brings up losing the title match and says he should have known better, but he has lost like a man while MJF won like a coward and does not have any dignity and balls. Starks tells MJF to imagine what will happen next time he gets a title shot. He adds that at the end of the day, he will be the man around here.

Chris Jericho interrupts him as he comes out the stage with Sammy Guevara and Daniel Garcia, and has a baseball bat with him. Jericho says he has been watching Ricky for a long time and adds that he is a million-dollar talent. Jericho assures that he will be a World Champion some day, but he is not ready just yet. Jericho says Ricky has everything to succeed and needs a little bit of advice, influence and Chris Jericho. Jericho offers Starks to join JAS.

Starks gives Jericho some back-handed compliments and says the offer is very tempting, but it is a “hell no” from him to join JAS. Starks brings up Jericho losing to Action Andretti last week and says J in JAS might stand for Jobber. He asks Garcia and Guevara what has Jericho done for them. Starks then puts out a challenge for a match on January 5 edition of Dynamite.

Hager attacks Starks from behind and drops him with a clothesline. Jericho, Garcia and Guevara also get into the ring and start beating up Starks. Action Andretti runs out and hits Jericho with a crossbody. He sends Hager to the floor with a low-blow. Starks and Andretti deals with the other two and send them packing to stand tall in the ring.

Death Triangle(PAC, Rey Fenix & Penta El Zero Meido) vs The Elite(Kenny Omega, Nick Jackson & Matt Jackson) – Match 5 of Best of 7 Series – No Disqualification Rules

A brawl breaks out after the entrance from both teams. Death Triangle send The Elite to the floor with superkicks and follows them up with stereo suicide dives. Nick is sent to the corner and hit with a corner splash. Penta misses a splash and The Elite send him to the corner for splashes. Brandon Cutler is asked to come in but he is stopped by Alex Abrahantes. Everyone hit quick moves on each other. Penta gets a trash can to hit Omega.

Penta hits a low-blow dropkick on Omega as PAC and Rey hold a trash can to his groin. Nick fights back and sends all 3 opponents to the floor. Death Triangle get the upper hand as we cut to a break.

Death Triangle has set up a fake Christmas Tree in one corner and send Matt into it. Nick hits a crossbody to counter. PAC hits a kick to his ankle. Omega saves Nick from further damage. He slams PAC with a trash can before hitting a moonsault on him with a trash can for a close two-count. Omega brings out a barbed wire broom. Fenix is hit with a shot with that bat before Omega hits him with a bulldog on the bat.

Nick and Matt take care of Penta and PAC. Matt hits an elbow drop on Penta on a table and Nick hits a senton through the table. Omega hits Tiger Driver 98 on Fenix but he kicks out of the pin. Alex Abrahantes stops Omega from hitting V-Trigger. Death Triangle counter but Omega hits V-Trigger. He looks for One Winged Angel but Rey counters with a hurricanrana. Fenix hits him with a hammer shot but Omega kicks out.

PAC puts Omega in a brutalizer. Rey puts Nick in a kneebar. Matt fights back against Penta before he breaks PAC’s move. Death Triangle send the Young Bucks to the floor and get ready for a hammer shot on Omega. The Young Bucks pull PAC and Penta to the floor. Omega hits a snap dragon suplex on Fenix. The Young Bucks hit a spiked piledriver to get the pin on Fenix.

Winner – The Elite

Penta and PAC start to beat up The Elite after the match. They use everything they get their hands on to attack The Elite. Fenix pull them away.


We see a promo from MJF from last week after Bryan Danielson chased him out. MJF says it should have been his moment but Danielson has to intervene. He says everyone wants to eat off his plate now, and Danielson will have to pay for it.


Action Andretti is backstage with Tony Schiavone to talk about his win over Chris Jericho. Andretti says he is getting so much praise from AEW fans ever since he pulled out the upset of the decade. Matt Menard and Angelo Parker interrupt him and say he is on fire. Jericho throws a fireball at Andretti’s face. Andretti falls to the floor clutching his face.

Danielson Calls Out MJF

Renne Paquette is in the ring and brings out Bryan Danielson. She asks Bryan about what is the status of Blackpool Combat Club after William Regal’s exit. Bryan says he does not expect BCC to forgive Regal. He reveals how he was first trained right here in San Antonio, and how he was trained by Shawn Michaels, but Regal turned him into the wrestler and the person he is today. He says when Regal was in the hospital, he cried.

Bryan says Regal made his life better and made him a better wrestler. One thing Regal taught him that MJF needs to learn actions have consequences. Bryan calls MJF to come out to the ring. His call is answered by Ethan Page and Stokeley Hathaway. Page brings up how he was in the final of Eliminator Tournament Final and final two of Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal. He wonders why Bryan thinks he can just jump the line to get a title shot next.

Hathaway mocks Bryan by calling him a vegetable man and tells him to go back to his family and rest. Bryan retorts to vegetable insult and the crowd gets behind him. Page explains the vegetable insult, and says he will chop Bryan down like a vegetable. Bryan asks him to get into the ring right then. Page was getting ready to take Bryan on, but then he announces that he will face Bryan next week on Dynamite. MJF was watching all of this backstage.


We get an announcement for a trios casino battle royal for $300,000 prize. Jon Moxley is also in it Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta. Moxley cuts a promo against Adam Page and says everyone knows where he will be on Friday. Moxley says its not his fault if Page is injury prone because beating up guys is their job.


Samoa Joe gets a video promo and wishes everyone happy holidays along with Wardlow. He says Wardlow can have a Merry Christmas but all the holiday cheer will end on December 28 when he beats him.

Hook vs Exodus Prime

Hook ducks a swing and hits a suplex. He takes Prime to the corner to unload with bod shots. He hits a side-nagi next before some shots at neck and shoulder. Hook puts on Red-Rum to get a submission.

Winner – Hook

We see Big Bill and Lee Moriarty beating up Jack Perry backstage. Big Bill drops Perry into a dumpster with a chokeslam. Hook collects his belt and leaves to the back. Moxley enters for his match the next second and we cut to a break.

Jon Moxley vs Darius Martin

They lock and go to the corner. Moxley gets the first shot with a round kick to the back. He puts on a side headlock. Darius sends him to the ropes and trips him with a heel kick. He follows up with a dropkick. Moxley hits a kick to midsection and throws Darius to the floor. He sends Darius into the barricade before hitting him with a suplex in the crowd. Darius comes back with a tope suicida after Moxley throws him into the ring. Darius keeps Moxley under control for a while.

Moxley comes back with a suplex. He hits some stiff chops in the corner. He hits a superplex before hitting hammer elbows to this neck. Darius blocks a brainbuster and starts to trade blows with Moxley. Moxley hits a kick to the knee to get control. Moxley goes to tear his brace but Darius kicks him away. Darius hits a Pele kick from the second turnbuckle. Darius follows him with a couple of clotheslines. He hits a flatliner next to get a close two-count.

Moxley rolls through the diving crossbody. He hits stomps to Darius’ face followed by hammer elbows. Moxley puts on a choke. Darius gets to his feet but Moxley quickly hits Deathrider to get the pin.

Winner – Jon Moxley

Powerhouse Hobbs reveals a new chapter from the Book of Hobbs where he says this monster is ready to spill everyone’s blood.

FTR(Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) vs The Gunn Club(Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn)

Dax starts against Colten. Colten hits a big shot in frustration after being put in a headlock. Austin gets into the ring and Cash saves Dax from any attack. Cash tags in and hits an elbow to Colten’s back. Cash hits inverted atomic drops to both opponents. He sends both of them to the corner before Dax also comes in. FTR take Gunn Club to the floor and throw them into the barricade a few times.

Cash counters against Austin as we return from the break. Colten gets a tag and blocks a tag to Dax. Cash counters a whip to the corner. Dax gets the hot tag and sends both opponents to the corner to unload. He drops Austin with a clothesline and hits a Manhatten drop. Colten pulls Dax out of the ring and The Gunn Club are looking for spiked piledriver. Cash hit them with a suicide dive. The Gunn Club send FTR into the barricade.

Dax puts on a sharpshooter in the ring on Austin. Colten breaks it. Cash is sent into the barricade again. Dax avoids Fameasser and looks for a piledriver but his back gives up. Dax counters with a roll-up before Austin counters with a roll-up of his own. Colten gives him an assist to get the pinfall.

Winner – The Gunn Club

Lee & Strickland Face-to-Face

Tony Schiavone is in the ring and he brings out Rick Ross. Schiavone brings out Kieth Lee first. Ross hypes Shane “Swerve” Strickland. Swerve comes out to the stage and says he did not know that they were doing things on Lee’s time now. Lee is focused on Swerve when Parker Boudreaux attacks him from behind. Lee clotheslines him back to the floor.

Lee now gets out of the ring to chase Swerve but someone else, wearing same shirt as Swerve, attacks Lee on the ramp. All three of them have Mogul Affiliates shirt on. Swerve join them in the attack and hits a Swerve stomp with a cinderblock on Lee’s chest.


We hear from some of the participants from Trios Casino Battle Royal.

Jamie Hayter(c) vs Hikaru Shida – AEW Women’s Championship

Shida ducks a swing and unloads with quick shits. Hayter hits back with chops. Shida hits forearm shots. Hayter hits knife-edge chops before more shots from Shida. Shida kicks at the champion in the corner. They trade some sledgehammer shots to the back. Shida gets control with a scoop and a slam. She hits an exploder into the turnbuckle. Shida keep control for a while.

Hayter drops her on the turnbuckle in desperation. Hayter hits some blows before hitting a suplex into the turnbuckle. They get to the floor and Hayter sends Shida into the steel steps. She throws Shida into the barricade next.

Back to the ring, they trade forearm shots. Hayter has to throw Shida into the turnbuckle to stop Shida’s shots. She hits a suplex into a pin attempt to get a quick two-count. Hayter keeps Shida on the mat for a while before they start to trade shots once again. Shida hits a dropkick. She takes Hayter to the corner and unloads with punches from the second rope. Shida hits a missile dropkick.

Shida goes for a suplex from the second rope but Hayter hits a snapmare on her on the apron. Shida blocks a German suplex off the apron by holding onto the ropes. Shida slams Hayter into the ring post and hits a brainbuster to the floor. We cut to a break.

Shida hits a falcon arrow as we return. Shida takes Hayter to the top for an avalanche falcon arrow but Hayter counters to throw Shida down. Hayter misses a moonsault. Shida hits a running knee but Hayter kicks out. Shida was looking for a Katana Kick but Hayter drops flat to the mat. Hayter plays possum and hits a brainbuster. She hits a running knee to get a near fall. Hayter hits Hellbreakker to get another near fall.

Shida blocks Haytred and hits some kicks to her face. Rebel distracts the referee and Britt Baker gets into the ring with a kendo stick. Shida fights her off and breaks the kendo stick on her. Shida counters Hayter for a roll-up but Hayter hits her with a powerbomb for a near fall. Hayter hits a lariat but Shida kicks out again. Hayter hits Haytred to get the pin.

Winner – Jamie Hayter

After the match, Britt Baker & Rebel get into the ring to continue the beatdown. Toni Storm runs out but she also gets outnumbered. Saraya runs out and finally forces Hayter and her team to retreat. The show goes off the air.
