WWE TLC 2020 Pre-show

The kick-off show is live and the panel, consisting of Charly Caruso, Jeff Jarrett, Booker T and Peter Rosenburg, discusses all the matches of the evening.

Kick-off Show match – Big E, Daniel Bryan, Otis & Chad Gable defeated WWE Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn, Shinsuke Nakamura, Cesaro & King Baron Corbin. Big E got the pin over Zayn after an Urinagi and Big Ending.

Grade – C. A fun match but nothing more than that. Big E gets the pin which will take his storyline forward with Sami Zayn.

WWE TLC 2020 Main Show

The WWE Championship match will start the show. AJ Styles makes his entrance with his bodyguard. We get the hype video for the match. McIntyre enters and the announcement gets done. We are ready to go.

Drew McIntyre(c) vs AJ Styles – Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match for WWE Championship

AJ Styles goes for McIntyre’s leg to start with. He gets some offense going, focusing mostly on the knee. AJ goes for a suplex but McIntyre reverses it. McIntyre takes AJ from corner to corner and beating him up during that. AJ tries to come back but gets dropped with a back body drop. Big boot from AJ in the corner but a big chop from McIntyre sends AJ out of the ring as he got onto the top.

They both are outside the ring now. McIntyre sets up a table but AJ blocks the suplex. McIntyre ends up dropping AJ ribs first into the barricade before throwing him over some chairs. Drew drops AJ one more time on the barricade. Drew brings a ladder into the ring and goes to bring down the title. AJ hurries back into the ring with a chair and hits with it on McIntyre’s leg.

AJ with more chair shots. McIntyre tries to send AJ into the ladder with an Alabama slam but AJ lands on the ladder. McIntyre sends AJ into the chair in between the turnbuckle with the Alabama Slam. McIntyre climbs the ladder and AJ had to use a chair once again to stop him. A chop block to the knee causes more damage. Drew’s face is smashed into the ladder. After an enziguiri, AJ was looking for the Styles Clash on the ladder. Drew counters it into a hammerlock DDT. Drew picks up the Ladder and throws it on Styles, but Styles get out of the way just in time.

AJ chops blocks on the knee again. He uses the ladder to lock the calf crusher. The pace of the match has slowed down. AJ with some chair shots on McIntyre’s back and the injured knee. AJ then uses the chair to lock in the calf crusher. McIntyre had to smash his head into a ladder to break the hold. McIntyre’s leg is hurt and he is unable to stand for now. AJ ends up slamming his leg into the ring post as he stops him from using the ladder.

AJ sets up McIntyre on a table outside the ring. McIntyre throws a chair at him. McIntyre charges at him in the corner but AJ pushes a table into his path. McIntyre recovers quickly and throws AJ into a ladder in the corner. AJ ends up hitting the phenomenal forearm. Both men are down now. AJ sets up the Ladder in the middle of the ring now. AJ climbs the ladder but McIntyre scoops him up and sends him through a table that was earlier setup outside the ring.

McIntyre goes to climb the ladder but The Miz runs into the ring. Miz punches into McIntyre’s injured knee and sends him through a table. John Morrison runs in with the Money in the Bank briefcase and Miz cashes it in. The match is turned into a triple threat match now. McIntyre is down in the ring and Styles is down outside. Miz goes to climb the ladder but AJ’s bodyguard Jordan Omogbehin picks up Miz and sends him through a table. John Morrison runs in and strikes Omogbehin with a chair. The chair bends and Omogbehin is unmoved. Omogbehin runs after Morrison and they go backstage like this.

McIntyre and Styles recover and both men climbs the ladder. AJ punches into McIntyre’s knees to stop him. McIntyre recovers and is tussling with Styles. Miz comes in and sets up another ladder. McIntyre hits the Glasgow kiss to send Styles down. He gets better of the Miz also on top of the ladder. Styles recovers and climbs the ladder again. The Miz pushes the ladder and Styles lands on the outside. McIntyre hits Miz with the Claymore kick. McIntyre climbs the ladder and brings the title down to win the match.

Winner – Drew McIntyre(retains the WWE Championship)

Grade- A-. Both men did everything they could in this match, which resulted in an enthralling match. The beauty was that the match lasted for 25+ minutes but never felt like it. Only downside here is another failed MITB cash in and how MITB is starting to become meaningless.

Kayla Braxton is backstage with Paul Heyman. He talks about tonight’s WWE Universal Title match and says he likes the destruction and car crashes of WWE. He goes on and says someone will get hurt tonight and that someone is Kevin Owens, at the hands of our Tribal Chief.

Sasha Banks(c) vs Carmella – WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship Match

Sasha Banks getting better of the first exchange as she sends Carmella out of the ring. Carmella is caught by his assistant as she was whipped out of the ring by Sasha. The assistant helps Mella to hit Sasha with a scissors takedown on the floor. Carmella brings her back to the ring quickly but could only get two. Carmella locks in a stretch, putting pressure on the neck. Sasha picks her up on her back and slams her into the turnbuckle. A Meteora gets her a two-count.

They end up on the apron and Carmella ends up slamming Sasha’s neck onto the apron. Carmella takes time to bring Sasha into the ring and gets only two-count. Carmella puts Sasha in a backstretch now. Sasha counters with a backbreaker. Sasha with a kick and a Meteora in the corner. Sasha delivers the three amigos to set up and hit the frog splash. Carmella kicks out just microseconds before the third count.

Carmella gets some back elbow strikes in the corner. Some back and forth and Carmella hits a bulldog. She goes to cover and Sasha kicks out of the pin. This goes on for two more times and Sasha kicks out each time. Carmella is frustrated now. She goes on to work on Sasha in the corner. A superkick to the back of the neck on Sasha. Carmella covers one more time and Sasha grabs the ropes to break the pin.

Sasha sends her into the turnbuckle now to get another two-count. Sasha goes to the top. Carmella joins her. Carmella’s move from the top is reversed into a pin which is kicked out. Carmella ends up locking a submission move using her legs around Sasha’s neck. Sasha tries to reverse it into the Bank Statement but Carmella locks in the front face lock. Sasha finally locks in the Bank statement but Carmella’s assistant pulls her out of the ring.

Sasha takes him out with a Meteora at the ringside. Carmella takes advantage of the distraction and hits a superkick. Back to the ring, Sasha kicks out at two again. Carmella is frustrated. Sasha locks in the Bank Statement and gets the tapout.

Winner – Sasha Banks(retains SmackDown Women’s Championship)

Grade- B+. A good match where Sasha refused to give in and Carmella keeps getting more and more frustrated. The story was done to perfection.

Asuka is backstage warming up when Billie Kay approaches and makes her pitch to be Asuka’s partner for tonight. Asuka decides that Billie is not ready for her.

New Day(Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods)(c) vs Hurt Business(Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin) – WWE RAW Tag Team Championship Match

Alexander runs into a superkick from Kofi to start with. Woods with a leg drop from the top but Alexander kicks out at 2. New Day working quick tags to keep pressure on Alexander. Benjamin had to come in and break the pin to break the momentum. Benjamin is then tagged in and slams Woods with a spinebuster. Woods dodges a clothesline and dropkicks Benjamin. Kofi tags in while Woods takes out Alexander with a dive.

Kofi with a dropkick on Benjamin and tags in Woods who gets another two-count. Benjamin slams Woods’ neck into the turnbuckle. Cedric with a kick to the neck when he gets tagged in. Hurt Business keeps tagging in and out to keep pressure on Woods. Woods counters against a springboard back elbow and tags in Kofi. Kofi runs riot against both opponents. Kofi hits SOS on Cedric who kicks out at two and a half.

More back and forth and Cedric hits a brainbuster on Kofi. Woods breaks the pin. Benjamin takes care of him. Benjamin tags in and eats a superkick. Kofi goes to the top. Benjamin meets him there. They tussle at the top for while before Benjamin hits a suplex from the top. Benjamin was getting ready for his finisher but Cedric tags in and hits the lumbar check to get the pin.

Winners – Hurt Business – Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin(new RAW Tag Team Champions)

After the match, MVP grabs the tag titles and hands them to the new champions. Benjamin is a bit upset but joins in the celebrations. WWE United States Champion Bobby Lashley joins them the celebration at the ramp. New Day are recovering near the ring.

Grade- B. A fast paced and relatively shorter match. Hurt Business finally gets better of New Day who have now lost two back to back PPV matches.

We get a replay of the Sami Awards on SmackDown with WWE Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn and Big E crashing them. We also hear the leaked audio from Kayla Braxton, of Sami spoofing the recent leaked Tom Cruise audio. Sami confronts Kayla in the back and wants to know who leaked the audio. She refuses to tell him because journalists don’t reveal their sources.

Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax(c) vs Asuka & Mystery Partner Charlotte Flair – WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match

Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler enter first. WWE RAW Women’s Champion Asuka enters for the match. She is waiting for her mystery partner now. It turns out to be, as heavily rumored, Charlotte Flair. Nia and Baszler are shocked but are ready for the match.

Asuka and Shayna Baszler start the match. Asuka goes for a waist lock. Baszler slips out and gets some kicks going. Asuka responds with some kicks of her own. Baszler goes to stomp on Asuka’s arm but Asuka escapes. Flair asks for the tag. Asuka tags her in and Flair brings down Baszler. She also decks Nia off the apron. Baszler taunts Flair and tags in Nia. Nia’s power is proving too much for Flair.

Asuka tags in and goes to attack Nia. She manages to hit a knee stabber but Nia does not get affected much. Nia tags in Baszler who stomps on Asuka’s arm. Flair is getting angry at Baszler. Baszler is working on Asuka’s arm now. Asuka rolls her up in a pin but Baszler gets more angry and runs her over. Nia sends Asuka into the ring post and then the barricade.

A spinning backfist from Asuka gets her an opening. More kicks gives Asuka the opportunity to tag in Flair. Flair comes in and hits some chops. Flair keeps going after Nia. Baszler comes in and gets hit with a German suplex. Flair damages Nia’s leg with some innovative offense. Asuka with a running kick on Baszler and Flair hits the spanish fly on both Baszler and Jax.

Back into the ring, Flair goes for the figure four but Nia kicks her away. Asuka tags in and tussles with Nia. Baszler tags in and goes to lock in the kirifuda clutch. Asuka takes her to her corner and Flair tags in. Flair and Baszler go back and forth. Asuka takes out Nia Jax and Flair locks in the figure four. Baszler breaks the lock but Flair hits the natural selection to get the pin and the win.

Winner – Charlotte Flair and Asuka(new Women’s Tag Team Champions)

Grade- B. Another good match. Flair’s return would have been much more impactful if it was not leaked well ahead of the time. This also sets up the four-way battle for the WWE RAW Women’s Championship going into the WrestleMania season.

Roman Reigns(c) vs Kevin Owens – Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match for WWE Universal Championship

WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns is out first with Paul Heyman. Reigns poses on the ramp as the pyro goes off. Reigns enters the ring and more pyro goes off. He hands the title belt to the referee and it’s raised above the ring.

Owens suddenly attacks Reigns as the belt is being raised up. Owens destroys Reigns and sends him to the corner. Owens with a big corner cannonball. Owens brings it to the floor and launches Reigns into the barrier, then delivers another cannonball as fans continue to go wild for him. Owens drops Reigns on the floor again, then hits a big Frogsplash off the apron. Reigns gasps for air.

Jey Uso comes in but runs into a super kick from Owens. Owens goes on and slam a chair on Roman’s back. He then goes on and counter Jey’s superkick with a chair. Owens wraps a chair around Jey’s legs and stomps on it. Some officials come and take Jey away as he has injured his leg.

Roman catches Owens with a drive-by dropkick. Roman is pissed as Jey is helped to the back. Roman goes and hit Owen with steel steps a few times. The brutallity continues as Roman uses everything around to hurt Owens.

Owens brings down Roman with a fisherman suplex onto a chair. Owens goes climbing the ladder but Jey Uso comes back to stop him. KO is fighting off Jey when Roman hits him with the superman punch. Jey brings in a table as Roman recovers. They setup two tables in the ring on opposite corners. Roman sends Owens into Jey for a Samoan drop but Owens counters. Jey is sent out and Roman is hit with a stunner.

Owens is now fighting with Jey again on the floor. He sends Jey through the announce table with a pop-up powerbomb. Owens has decided to do Jey for good as he covers him in debris and commentators chairs. Owens climbs the ladder and reaches to the top when Roman comes in. They tussle for a while and Roman ends up hitting a powerbomb into a ladder.

Owens is down on the floor and Roman is clearing debris on top of Jey. Roman then sends Owens through a table with a Samoan drop. Roman takes his sweet time to get back into the ring and climb the ladder. Roman was about to reach to the top when Owens get back to the ring. Owens looks devastated and Roman is laughing at him viciously. Roman get back down and taunts him for a while. Owens punches Roman and Roman spears KO through one of the table setup in the corner.

Owens is up again after a few seconds though. Roman looks at him and is getting frustrated now. Owens tells him that he is gonna have to kill him. Roman goes for another spear but Owens sidesteps to send him into the barricade. Owens climbs the ladder and Roman somehow stops him from bringing down the title.

Owens with a couple of superkicks. He goes for the powerbomb but Roman hits the superman punch. Owens breaks another table by hitting pop-up powerbomb. KO climbs the ladder but Jey Uso comes back to stop him. Owens comes down and hits a stunner on Uso. KO goes back on the ladder. Roman climbs from the other side and hits a low blow. He then chokes out Owens which sends Owens crashing down. Roman brings down the title to win the match.

Winner- Roman Reigns(retains WWE Universal Championship)

After the match, Roman celebrates in the ring for a while. He picks up Jey Uso and Paul Heyman also joins him. Owens is recovering at the ringside, looking disappointing.

Grade- A. In coming years, this match will be fondly remembered as one of the best TLC matches. To say that it was a brutal match would be an understatement. Kevin Owens did good on his promise of doing anything and going to any limit to try and win the match. Roman’s replies were equally devastating and took his saddist character to another level. Both men did their job to perfection. No two other men would have produced this match.

Randy Orton vs The Fiend – Firefly Inferno Match

The only way to win the first-ever Firefly Inferno Match is to light any part of your opponent on fire. Out first comes Randy Orton wearing street clothes. Orton hits the corner to pose as the pyro goes off. The Firefly Fun House music starts up next. We see Orton waiting in the ring as the virtual crowd starts to shut down. The lights now go down and the arena is black. The red lights come up as the unique entrance of “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt begins. The Fiend heads to the ring with his head lantern as Orton seethes in the ring.

The bell rings and the lights come back up as they stare each other down. Fiend plays games with Orton and laughs at him to start. Orton keeps punching but Fiend just laughs. Fiend blocks the RKO and goes to work on Orton, beating him down and unloading in the corner. Fiend with a headbutt and more offense. Orton blocks Sister Abigail and nails a dropkick.

Fiend takes back control and rakes Orton’s face over the top rope. They run the ropes and Fiend launches himself for the crossbody. Orton fights out of Sister Abigail again, turning it into a backbreaker. They go on and the flames start shooting up from the ringside area. The Firefly Inferno has begun.

They go to the floor as Fiend continues to dominate Orton. There are also flames all around the other side of the barrier. Fiend tries to put Orton in the flames but he fights him off. Fiend drops Orton at ringside and the flames shoot up. Fiend grabs a strap and starts whipping Orton with it at ringside. Fiend catches the strap on fire now as fans pop. He charges and swings but Orton moves. Orton fights Fiend off and tries to burn him with flames that are next to the announce table. Fiend blocks it and sends him into the ring post.

Fiend grabs a pick axe from under the ring and swings it but Orton dodges it. Fiend goes back to work on Orton and sends him into the ring post. Fiend brings the Wyatt rocking chair over and douses it in gasoline. He then pours a trail of gas from the chair to Orton. Fiend tries to toss Orton into barrier flames and then sends him into the steel steps again. Fiend places Orton in the rocking chair now. Fiend walks over to the gasoline trail and pulls out a lighter. He lights the trail and it leads to the chair but Orton jumps out of the chair before it can ignite him. Fiend just laughs.

Orton attacks with half of the steel steps and then the axe handle. Orton drives the steps into Fiend’s face again, and again as flames shoot up from the barrier. Orton pulls out a chain and wraps it around his fist, punishing Fiend with it. Orton wraps the chain around Fiend’s neck and tries to push him into the flames but Fiend escapes. Fiend returns to the ring and Orton follows with the chain. Fiend drops him in the middle of the ring with a big Uranage.

Fiend approaches Orton and snaps his neck. Fiend tosses Orton back to the floor. Fiend lights the axe handle on fire and swings it but Orton avoids it and decks Fiend. Orton with the draping DDT from the apron to the floor. Orton pounds the ground to signal for the RKO. Fiend slowly gets up. Fiend blocks the RKO and applies the Mandible Claw.

Fiend tries to push Orton back into the flames. Orton turns it around and tries to push Fiend in the flames. Fiend’s jacket catches on fire, as do his pants. Orton returns to the ring as Fiend is on fire at ringside.

Winner- Randy Orton

– After the win, The Fiend runs back into the ring, right at Orton while he’s on fire. Orton drops him with the RKO. Fiend is laying face-down now as the flames on his body start to go out. The flames around the ringside area are still going. Orton rolls Fiend over with his boot and looks a bit disturbed at what has happened. Orton rolls to the floor and grabs the can of gasoline now.

Orton returns to the ring and pours gasoline over The Fiend. He then strikes a match and hold sit over Fiend, letting it burn. Orton finally drops the match and The Fiend’s entire body goes up in flames. The flames all around the ringside area start shooting up in the air, over and over. Orton rolls out of the ring and stands at ringside as the flames keep shooting up. The Fiend’s body burns in the middle of the ring. Orton does his signature pose while the flames rage as WWE TLC goes off the air.
