Two #1 Contender Matches Announced for NXT & Women’s Title
NXT has announced two #1 contender matches for next week’s episode for both NXT Championship and NXT Women’s Championship.
NXT General Manager teased two big announcements for tonight’s NXT episode. Both announcements turned out related to title matches at the next NXT TakeOver event. The show was announced earlier in the day by WWE.
For NXT Championship, a Gauntlet Elimination match is announced to identify Finn Balor’s challenger. This match will be a bit different from regular Gauntlet matches as participants will enter every 4 minutes. More rules for this match are as follows:
- Two Men will start in the ring
- Every 4 minutes, another competitor will enter
- Only way to be eliminated from the match is via pinfall or submission
- The last man standing will be named as #1 contender for the NXT Championship and will face Finn Balor at NXT TakeOver event.
For Women’s Championship, a battle royal is announced with 11 participants. The winner will advance to face Io Shirai in the title match at TakeOver. The participants announced for the battle royal are as follows:

- Kacy Catanzaro
- Indi Hartwell
- Aliyah
- Dakota Kai
- Candice LeRae
- Rhea Ripley
- Tegan Nox
- Raquel Gonzalez
- Kayden Carter
- Xia Li
The next NXT TakeOver event will take place on 4 October 2020, which is just about 17 days away. With such a short period to buildup towards the show, NXT has found a way to fast track the buildup of feuds with these mega #1 contender matches.
