Pete Dunne Wins #1 Contender Triple Threat at WarGames 2019

Pete Dunne defeated Damian Priest and Killian Dain at NXT TakeOver WarGames 2019 to become the number 1 contender for NXT Championship and will face Adam Cole at Survivor Series 2019 later tonight.

Pete Dunne was originally feuding with Damian Priest for the last one month or so in NXT. Killian Dain got into the midst of this rivalry when he tried to intimidate Dunne before one of these matches. Dain then attacked Dunne’s stablemate, Tyler Bate, a few weeks back on NXT to start a proper beef with Dunne.

Dunne and Dain had a match fixed two weeks back in NXT. But as usual, Dain started a brawl before the bell could ring. Priest also joined in the brawl and they always looked set to face-off at TakeOver: WarGames. Additionally, NXT announced that the winner of this match will get the NXT title shot at Survivor Series on the very next day.

At TakeOver: WarGames, Pete Dunne came out the winner at the end of an insane triple threat. As it generally happens in a triple threat match, none of the three men were able to get a clear cut advantage at any point in time. However, Dunne picked up the win by rolling up Priest for a surprise pin after Dain hit him with a Samoan Drop onto Priest’s chest.

This will be the first time that NXT Championship will be defended at WWE PPV other than TakeOver. Pete Dunne and the Undisputed ERA also has a history as he wrestled alongside Ricochet and the Viking Raiders in the WarGames match at last year’s NXT TakeOver: WarGames.

Pete Dunne also comes with huge championship credentials as he held the WWE United Kingdom Championship for a whopping 685 days. He lost the title to WALTER at NXT TakeOver: New York 2019 during the WrestleMania weekend back in April.
