The road to WWE’s biggest summer party has started with the announcement of what could be the main event match for the night. Randy Orton was announced to tell us about his next target on RAW this week. Orton has been on a roll in recent times after defeating Edge at Backlash and making small work of Christian and the Big Show in recent weeks at RAW.

Orton opened the show on Monday night and his target expectedly came out to be WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. Later in the show, McIntyre accepted the challenge and confirmed the match for SummerSlam 2020. After McIntyre defeated Dolph Ziggler in a non-title Extreme Rules match, Orton jumped on him with an RKO to kick start the build-up for the match.

Drew McIntyre won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36 in April this year where he defeated Brock Lesnar for the title. Since then, he has been under no threat of losing the championship with getting wins against Seth Rollins(at Money in the Bank), Bobby Lashley(at Backlash) and Dolph Ziggler(at Extreme Rules).

Randy Orton was defeated at WrestleMania by Edge in a Last Man Standing match but redeemed himself since winning the “Greatest Wrestling Match” against Edge at Backlash 2020.

The win over Edge and his heel portrayal since has propelled Orton to become the hottest star in WWE at the moment. There were some speculations that Orton has pitched an idea to face a star from NXT(read Adam Cole) at SummerSlam. But the idea for his match against Drew McIntyre took the front seat in the recent weeks.
